Tambellini fired… MacTavish takes on General Manager position, Howson to take over MacT’s old role

The more things chance, the more they stay the same.

The more things chance, the more they stay the same.

The Edmonton Oilers have fired Steve Tambellini as General Manager. In an ironic twist of fate, a man Tambellini once fired, has been named his replacement – Craig MacTavish.

My thoughts here:

1) Happy that Tambellini is gone. He did a terrible job. I think the “apologist” types would say that he was a puppet for Lowe and company. Maybe.. but if that’s the case, he’s really useless anyways.

2) I think Lowe should be gone too. Clearly he’s a part of the mess and isn’t doing anything to help. He won’t be gone, however.

3) I like Craig MacTavish. Smart guy. He brings a coaching perspective to this. He knows what made life difficult for him as a coach and will likely work a lot closer with Krueger.

4) I hate that we stuck with the same ol’ same ol’. OBC forever, folks.

Minute improvement, like much of what we’ve seen around here. But I’ll give it a chance.

Scott Howson will also replace Craig MacTavish as Head Senior in Charge of Waiting Around for Someone To Get Fired… or Sr. Vice President of Hockey Operations, for short.

Talk is cheap, but MacTavish said all the right stuff I hoped to hear.. much of it is in this big quote of his I put together from the presser (Read on): Continue reading 'Tambellini fired… MacTavish takes on General Manager position, Howson to take over MacT’s old role'»

Jason Strudwick “busses” Tambellini and co..

“Let’s face it, Scotty Bowman would not have done much better with the team Renney was given.”

– Jason Strudwick

I love it, and absolutely agree. I’m not at all a fan of Renney being fired because I don’t think he had been given a proper team at this point. Good luck to the next coach if Tambellini doesn’t completely fix this team’s glue players and goaltending.

Renney thinks:sigh...i gotta back up whatever this asshat says...

Renney: "sigh...i gotta back up whatever this asshat says..."

OK, So every so often we have a “Caption This!” post. Usually these are epic failures in the contributions we receive, but we hope they are still funny as hell to read with the stuff we come up with, at the very least.

Basically the idea is we throw up a picture, and you come up with some captions for it, or do something funny with the picture. Example, with the picture above.. give Renney and Tambellini some lines (i.e. what are they saying?), or draw something funny on the picture and repost it.

Here’s a few captions to help get things rolling.. feel free to contribute in the comments if you like: Continue reading 'Caption This! Steve Tambellini and Tom Renney'»

3 up, 3 down…

The Oilers recalled Lennart Petrell, Teemu Hartikainen and Taylor Chorney from the Oklahoma City Barons. In turn, Ryan O’Marra, Josh Green and Colten Teubert get to escape this shit show for a bit.

In other news, the Edmonton Sun is reporting that Steve Tambellini should be getting a contract extension… only the details need to be worked out. This is of course based on the fact that he’s done such a good job of winning the reverse-standings Presidents Trophy.

Tambellini interviewed..

I will figure you out one day, Mr. Tambellini....

I will figure you out one day, Mr. Tambellini....

So today Steve-O mentioned something to me that sent me in a bit of a panic. It was something along the lines of “Tambellini said that he isn’t going to be a player in free agency”. Our first thought was along the lines of “oh great, another year of abysmal failure.” But I dug up the interview (which I’m sure many of you have read now) and it’s actually a lot better than it sounds….

Tambellini actually said that he is not going to persue the big “$10 Million agent”. This is absolutely the correct thing for him to think. However, I would have to think that at this point, you’d have to be a complete moron (sorry to anyone out there that disagrees) to think that we should be pursuing a big name free agent anyways, at this stage. So, no bonus marks for Tambellini here.. just a simple check mark in the “isn’t being a dipshit for thinking we need a big money free agent” box.

So what else good did he have to say? Continue reading 'Tambellini interviewed..'»
