Souray wants out.. but before you flame him, read on...

First off, let me start by stating that earlier in the week David Staples pointed out that Souray asked for a trade, and I questioned whether he was reading between the lines a bit on that… damn, admitting I’m wrong twice in one week? Whhhy!!!

Anyways, yes, it is true, Souray does want out, and he has specifically said that in plain english. What’s the reasoning? Crappy fans, right? No. Well OK, crappy teammates, right? No. Well, crappy weather??? What? That’s got to be it. No. Crappy management is apparently the answer. Souray is pretty ticked off at management these days (and well, who isn’t, really). Could this be more reason to signal the end of Lowe, as well as Tambellini, and signal the move of Pat Quinn to the GM’s chair? Probably not, unless Katz was already on the fence on that. But it came as a bit of a surprise when I read that Souray was ticked at mangement.

I want a trade. I do. It’s not a players thing. It’s not a fans thing or a city thing. It’s a management thing. They’ve given up on me, and it’s a two-way street. Management has soured on me, and I’ve soured on them. The fans are great, they’ve accepted me here, I see the jerseys in the stands. I couldn’t have pictured a more opposite vision of what my experience here would be like. What the organization here would be like, overall.

I just want to also suggest that people don’t jump all over Souray for asking for a trade. Don’t turn this into Prongergate 2.0. He was a good player here, and a good leader. It’s a huge red flag against management, who has actually shown some issues throughout the season and in the past. This definitely is something that needs to be addressed in some way or another, as it sucks to see another star player shun this team. I’m really starting to think that Tambellini and Lowe spend most of their day playing Nintendo in their office together.

Sums up how we all feel watching the team this year..

Was listening to the Team 1260, and Jason Gregor mentioned that there are 3 teams interested in Ethan Moreau – Anaheim, Los Angeles, and San Jose. So for those of you saying that these big contracts are immovable, you may be surprised. I think Staios is another guy that Tambellini might be getting a couple of calls about (as far as guys who surprisingly have value). So as I’ve said before, I do think that Tambellini does have the ability to drop significant salary. Of course we won’t likely get much in return for Moreau/Staios, but I’m fine with that.

There’s also been some talk (by fans) of moving Souray to the Ducks for Guigere. I would have to presume that more would come our way as well, but the thought process there is that we’d be gaining a year’s worth of salary cap hit because Guigere’s contract expires a year earlier than Souray’s. I am not sure if we talked about it here too, because that sounds familiar to me. But I just wanted to say I’m not a fan of the idea at all. Wanted to hear what you folks had to say on the matter.

UPDATE:
One more topic I wanted to throw in here.. in the Metro today there was an article suggesting that Gagner and Cogliano should be sent to the minors for development reasons. Wanted to get some reaction on that too. First off, unless I’m completely mistaken (and I doubt I am in this case) both would have to clear waivers, which makes the idea completely unthought out. Secondly, even if they didn’t need to clear waivers, why would we do that? Gagner is doing his part right now. Cogliano really is maybe just in need of more decent linemates (although he’s had Penner/Gags recently). Anyways, seemed like a silly idea, waivers-aside.

Studly Wonderbomb during happier times

Well, let me preface this by saying that I hope people will see this for what it is and not turn this into another Chris Pronger incident. Sheldon Souray likely isn’t demanding his way out, but it’s quite likely he would jump at any chance to move to the teams on his list. And well, I can’t blame him. He came here with hopes of helping turn this team into a cup contender. At this stage of the game, nearly 3 years since he signed here, it’s obvious that the Oilers are in re-build mode after keeping the team on life support for at least that length of time. "Rob Schremp hockey ain't about tackey tattoos"

A bit slow on this one (I actually worked at work today), but the Oilers and Rob Schremp have agreed to a 1-year, 2-way contract that will see Schremp earn $715K in the NHL or $75k in the AHL. Rumors are that the Islanders would scoop him up should the Oilers place him on waivers (Schremp will need to clear waivers if he is sent to Springfield).
