PRE-GAME RANT
Hola, Amigos! Typing this one up from Mexico. The girlfriend and I got sick last night (her Bronchitis, me a fever that she had to go along with it). Nothing too major, thanks to the fantastic doctors here in Mazatlan (and I say that with absolutely no sarcasm.. they are great, and it embarrasses me how slow our system is). Anyways.. on to the game.
Tom Gilbert was absolutely destroyed yesterday by Dan Carcillo. However, in true Gilbert fashion, it was a mere flesh wound. He won’t be back for tonight’s game, but word is that his knee feels better, and he’ll try a skate in St. Louis tomorrow (per Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal on Twitter). The Nuge… I still have yet to hear much on him. They’re flying him back to Edmonton to have our doctors look at him. Insert hysterical laughter and sighs here. Don’t screw this one up, Oilers medical staff!!!
Colton Teubert and Josh Green have been called up. 630 Ched presents you the lines below…

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers return home tonight after the Christmas break and will face the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have dropped their last two contests (including a recent 5-2 loss to the Flames) and are 4-5-1 in their last 10. The Oilers are in a similar state, having gone 4-4-2 in their last 10.
Tonight’s game marks another first for a promising prospect. Jeff Petry has been called up and will play tonight. No word on who he will be paired with but I suspect that with Gilbert out, we should see Petry a decent amount tonight.
With these two team’s struggling, and how the Oil generally like playing the Eastern teams, I’ll call this one a win that gets them back on track for the short term.
Prediction: 4-2 Oilers.

GDT - Remembrance Day - Edmonton Oilers at Buffalo Sabres
PRE-GAME RANT
We are the dead, short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunsets glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
- Colonel John McCrae
First off, happy Remembrance/Veterans Day, everyone.
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off of a tough shoot-out loss versus the Ottawa Senators in which they outplayed and outshot the Senators. In what was typically the Oilers marquee meltdown period (the second period), the Oilers actually turned it up and had outshot the Senators 15 to 6, however the lone goal went to the Senators that period. Still yet, the Oilers have 3 of 4 points on the current 5-game road trip so far and hope to get some more tonight in Buffalo.
The Sabres, meanwhile, are coming off back-to-back losses. Their last game was all the way back on Saturday, a 4-2 loss to the Bruins. Friday’s game was a 5-2 loss to the Flyers. The Sabres are currently first in the North East division and will look to regain their form versus the Oilers tonight. Continue reading 'GDT – Oilers 1, Sabres 3 – Nov 11, 2009 – Game 19'»

Rumor: Possible Tom Gilbert for Drew Stafford Trade?
I don’t really think this one holds any water, but the first I heard of this rumor was when David Staples of the Edmonton Journal mentioned on his blog Cult of Hockey that a journalist for the Buffalo News was rumor mongering a possible deal between the Oilers and the Sabres. In the Buffalo News article, the reporter cited that an “A source in Edmonton says the Oilers would trade puck-moving defenseman Tom Gilbert in a heartbeat for Drew Stafford, if the Sabres were interested.” Continue reading 'Rumor: Gilbert for Stafford.. Would You Do It?'»
