Nail Yakupov will suit up for Russia
Finally a game I can watch live, in its entirety. I have to work tomorrow, but luckily I’m working at home and will just stream the game on TSN’s site (well worth the $20, BTW).
Not much of a GDT thread here, as it’s 2:30AM, and I have to be up in a mere 4.5 hours or so. Looks like this game starts at 7:00AM MST. The times for this were a bit all over the map. I am sure I saw somewhere on TSN’s site that the game started at 7:30AM MST, but it now says 6:30AM (probably pre-game show). But looks like the puck drops at 7:00AM, so be there folks.
I can’t remember how the hell to make the game day chat work, so hopefully this works…
Chat is currently closed.
Edit: game over… Canada wins 4-1. Overall a good game by Canada. Got an early break with a 5-min powerplay, which gave them a 2-goal lead to hang on to. Subban played yet another good game.
One thing I’ll say, and I’m probably alone on this, but I don’t like the gloating some players do (holding the jersey crest to the Russian crowd, Subban’s penalty shot celebration, etc..). It’s one thing that irked me about the Russians in the past. But oh well. It’s not that bad and could be a lot worse, but some humility would be nice.

PRE-GAME RANT
Here we go, the gold medal game between Canada and Russia… two huge rivals. These are the teams that have been the best for decades. The Russians have stumbled as of late, but they look to be back. They had a tough win over Sweden in a shootout to get here, highlighted by some great goaltending by Dmitri Shikin. The Canadians dominated the Americans in their semi-final, and won 4-1 to get here today.
The Canadians have already beaten the Russians in this year’s tournament. In the opening game for Canada, the Canadians won by a score of 6-3. I am hoping for a similar result, or a result at least in Canada’s favor.
The USA also will play Sweden, earlier this afternoon (1:30PM MST). Gotta root for the Swedes, as hard as it is to do after they chirped at Canada (calling the USA a harder team to play against than us, and saying that the refs call in our favor often).
Let’s Go Canada!

The teams advancing to the semi-final have been set.
Russia will first face Sweden on Monday at 1:30PM MST. Canada will then face the USA (also on Monday) at 5:30PM MST. The winners of the games will face each other for the gold, while the losers will play for the bronze. Both final games will take place on Wednesday. The bronze medal game will take place at 1:30PM MST, and the gold medal game will take place at 5:30PM MST.
All games should be available on TSN in Canada. The USA games are apparently going to play on the NHL Network for American viewers.

PRE-GAME RANT
Well, fresh off a big win over Germany (8-2), Canada now heads into another huge game. The Americans definitely were a huge test (which unfortunately Canada failed), however you have to wonder if the Russians are going to be an even tougher team to play against. It’ll be interesting to see how the Canadians handle what is possibly the scariest top line at the Olympics (with possible exception to the newly formed Staal, Crosby, Iginla line). This should be a high flying, exciting game, and I’m hoping Roberto Luongo will be up to the task. This will also be another step in the always-exciting Crosby vs. Ovechkin series.
Prediction: 5-4 Canada

Olympic hockey.. not as cool as the WJHC, less amateur than the Spengler
Didn’t do them all, but here are the major ones (Canada, Russia, USA, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden)… if anyone sees reason to add a roster or two, let me know and I’ll put them up. If anyone notes any changes, please let me know so I can update this.
Anyways… here are the 2010 Olympic Hockey Rosters… Continue reading '2010 Olympic Hockey Rosters'»
