The new “TrinasOil” / Eklund?

By , June 23, 2013 12:07 am

Take it with a grain of salt, but there’s been some interesting trade talk on HF Boards as of recent. By that, I mean someone is claiming to have insider information saying that the Oilers have 3 trades done (will announce after the cup final is done). That could be just a wild guess. Terry Jones also tweeted earlier in the week that he believed the Oilers had two deals done. This spawned some similar talk from other rumor mongers, and the rumors appear to be in line with each other.

The rumors only seem to indicate the players coming here.

One deal is with Ottawa, in which the Oilers get Colin Greening and Zack Smith.

The other deal is with Toronto, in which the Oilers get Joe Colborne and Ben Scrivens.

Humoring the possibility, I think I like the Toronto players coming our way better. I don’t think either trade would be mind blowing, however. But I think Colborne is a long shot for the type of center we need in the organization, on the 2nd line. Emphasis on long shot. I don’t think he’s quite the player many hoped he’d be, but he’s still a work in progress, so you never know (especially, you never know when someone will just click with some very skilled linemates). Scrivens would make a decent back up here (although I will say I’d aim higher). Greening and Smith I’m not too keen on. Some folks out there are though. I do think hey’d be decent pick ups, I just am not sure they’d be the game changers we need here.

I hope the part of the deal going the other way isn’t much.

The rumors also stated that apparently a very big deal was done. I’d be willing to bet that both Hemsky and Gagner is gone (not in the same deal, necessarily, and in Gagner’s case, it better not be in any deal mentioned above).

Also, Elliotte Friedman tweeted that the Oilers have given permission to Shawn Horcoff to speak with other teams. Sounds like they will make the effort to trade him.

Again, a reminder, outside of what Friedman mentioned, this is ALL RUMOR. Don’t take this post here and make it sound like it’s anything more than that. I’m just repeating what a couple people have said. So I’m skeptical… this stuff starts out as a mere rumor and quickly spreads into fact in no time, by word of mouth. But I really do firmly believe that the Oilers have 2 deals in place, as Jones said, and I’m sure one involves Toronto.

Pre Draft Trade Thoughts…

Is the #1 pick available? Should it be?

Is the #1 pick available? Should it be?

The rumor mill has been busy lately, as it always is at this time, with suggestions that the Oilers will be moving the #1 overall pick. So I thought it would be great to take a look at every team in the NHL and consider their assets… NHLers, and prospects … and consider which players we should be asking about. I mostly focused on the defense, and a bit on goaltenders and centermen, as I think those are our biggest needs. Some of these teams wouldn’t be able to offer much for our #1 pick and some teams would need more than our #1 pick for their assets, so I’ve also considered a list of tradeable players for the Oilers. This time of the year, it’s always fun to talk about trades.. but often they’re pretty unrealistic. I don’t mention any specific deals here though (save for a couple). Please feel free to make some suggestions in the comment section for guys we should be after, or trades we could make.

Racki’s Oilers Rumor Round-up

Dustin Brown is now rumored to be available, and the Oilers are a player..

Alright, here’s my post on what players are out there for the Oilers to pick up, as well as who we have available. Discuss your rumors here, and feel free to post about any successful trades and such in comments here too (also feel free to point out anything significant I’ve missed).

Oilers needs:
Goaltending – Nikolai Khabibulin and Devan Dubnyk won’t cut it.
Mobile, multi-faceted, big minute defenseman (who couldn’t use one of those?).
Bottom six depth players.
Argument for another top-six forward if Hemsky is traded.

Smyth wants back in

By , June 20, 2011 2:37 pm

As per TSN.

A deal certainly isn’t imminent and won’t necessarily be an easy transaction for either the Los Angeles Kings or Oilers to close, but sources tell TSN the 35-year-old left winger has indicated to the Kings his preference would be to play next season in Edmonton if a trade can be worked out.

Important details: 1 year remaining, 4.5 mil owed, 6.25 cap

Me personally would love to see him back, but I wouldn’t give up much for a 35 year old salary dump (even though he does contribute a bunch of offense) with only 1 year remaining.

Please be true, please be true, please be true..

Please be true, please be true, please be true..

According to the Fourth Period:

The Oilers could go after impending free agent center Zenon Konopka next month, if he hits the unrestricted market, the Edmonton Journal Reports.

Konopka isn’t afraid to drop the gloves and is a solid faceoff man, something the Oilers appear to be in the market for.

“Would I sign him? One hundred per cent, yes,” an NHL scout told the Journal. “He’s hard to play against and every team needs a captain of the bottom eight players on their roster and that’s Konopka.”

From what I read in the Journal, it’s more of a suggestion than a rumor, but man that would be nice.

The Fourth Period also notes that the Blue Jackets won’t be Continue reading 'Oil Talk / Rumors'»
