Really hard to find a recent pic of the Oilers and the Rangers so here are some of the Octane girls instead!  Go to a game, buy a calendar for your nephew for Christmas, or at least use that lie.  Support the team!

Oilers and Rangers face off tonight at Rexall place.  Looks like the designated backups will play tonight as both Dubnyk and Lundqvist were in action last night.  Oilers defeated the Jets 2-1 and the Rangers fell to the Flames 4-1.

Oilers had a lot of players getting a look last night so there will be a rotation of fresh legs brought in.  They are also minus Linus.  He’s been placed on waivers for the purpose of re-assignment.

Last night Pitlick had an impressive game and Eakins is going to give him another look.  He also is still enjoying Hall centering Hemsky and Smyth so that line will be kept together for now.  Larsen has had a strong showing in camp registering 5 blocked shots last night as well as a goal and two helpers over 3 games played.

Sounds like Grebeshkov(groin) and Potter(back) are both out with no current timeline, so it’s great to see that Larsen is doing well.

Tonight, Sam Gagner returns to the line up. He was injured in a pre-season game vs. the Flames earlier this year when he went awkwardly into the boards on a hit. His return to the lineup comes at the expense of Linus Omark. I think Omark has played well, but that line has been really ineffective at generating offense. Time to shake things up a bit. I wouldn’t even mind seeing Hartikainen draw in there to help with some dirty goals.

Khabibulin gets the start tonight. *pauses for groans*. He was very strong in the last game vs. the Wild, playing a perfect game for 59 minutes and 59 seconds. Rough, rough break. Hopefully the same Khabibulin plays tonight, because he was quite stellar.

I think this could be the night where our offense comes out (finally).

Prediction: 4-1 Oilers

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. New York Rangers

The Oilers hope to regain some of the offence they had in the first 10 or so games of the season against the visiting Rangers, tonight. The Rangers have been going through some offensive struggles of their own, as of late, having only scored 5 goals in their last 4 games. Both teams will be looking for a bit of a rebound. The Oilers have been on a horrible slide, having only one game (in shootout) of their last 6, after starting out 6-2-1 on the season.

The Oilers are hoping for some secondary scoring from Comrie, who returns to the line up tonight, as well as O’Sullivan who will be tried at his natural center position tonight. In addition, Gagner returns to the top line at center, as Horcoff is out with a shoulder injury. Check the game notes for more information on that and several other injury updates. Rangers let Zherdev walk…

Nikolai Zherdev

Nikolai Zherdev

The New York Rangers have made their decision on Nikolai Zherdev, and much to no one’s surprise, they have let Zherdev go.

Zherdev becomes an unrestricted free agent. Do the Oilers go after him? Jim Matheson stated in the Edmonton Journal today that Tom Renney “hasn’t enthusiastically gone to bat” for Zherdev.

There are suggestions that Zherdev will likely get passed up by the NHL GMs and will take a luctrative contract with a KHL team instead. No rumors of any actual contract offers have surfaced, but it’s only a matter of time. You know if your former coach on a team in dire need of an offensive threat doesn’t want you, that’s a bad sign.
