PRE-GAME RANT
When will these road horrors endddd? November sucks. Another reason to look forward to the new arena is we won’t have to add to our road woes in November by default with the CFR-induced road trip. It kills us yearly, I’m sure. Yes, the CFR is over, but I’m just saying that it just makes the month more grueling when we start off with 6, off the bat. Now we’re one game into a 4 game road trip again (to which the CFR can’t be blamed however). This November schedule just plain sucks.
Anyways, let’s hope that the Oilers can at least take A game on this road trip. Tonight sounds like a good enough one to take.
Taylor Chorney has been returned back to Oklahoma City. Alex Plante has been recalled. Aside from that, only a change in goalies marks this lineup as being any different tonight (so far… no word on Paajarvi returning to the lineup, for example).
No prediction again tonight…. win damn it!

PRE-GAME RANT
The Eager has landed… Ben Eager makes his regular season debut for the Edmonton Oilers. Perfect timing, considering Hordichuk just got hip-checked onto the IR on his own hit. Eager should add some toughness without too much skill at expense.
The big news around the Oilogosphere… actually even the NHL… is that our new kid line was spectacular on Saturday. How will they follow that performance up? I expect there to be good nights, great nights, and slow nights. And I would not be surprised if tonight was a slow night, unfortunately, against a team that plays a pretty tight defensive game.
Word is that Renney might dress 7 defense for this game, as one forward (unknown as to who yet) is feeling “under the weather”. They are a game time decision. Also, Theo Peckham, who’s been under a bit of fire lately MAY be a healthy scratch. He’s come under a bit of scrutiny from Oilers fans lately, as his start hasn’t been too stellar just yet. Petry will slot into the line up though, whether Peckham is out or not. Whitney won’t play tonight, but sounds like he’ll be in tomorrow though vs. Calgary. He and Gagner went through Tom Renney’s “test” today, which is a good sign.
The Oilers play back to back games. Tomorrow is against Calgary. I’d have to guess that today they’ll play Khabibulin, and tomorrow Dubnyk will see Calgary. Dubnyk seemed to struggle a bit vs. Vancouver (who doesn’t?), so who knows what Renney will decide. Actually, I do now, as Twitter tells me that it is in fact Khabibulin.
Prediction: 2-1 Oilers

Starting it off with a big "oops" by Preds GM David Poile...
A few big items today I figured I’d post about…
History Repeats Itself
Oh boy. Nashville pulled a Chicago and forgot to qualify several rfas per Nick Kypreos. “@RealKyper: Big #NHL news as some question #Predators missing qualifying offers on RFA’s O’Reilly, Spaling, Halischuk and Kostitsyn.” Chicago did this back in 2009. From digging, it looks like they actually did attempt to qualify the players, but the qualifying offers were sent by mail on the final day (uh… dur???) rather than by courier/fax as they usually are. Not sure what the case is with the Preds.
Jagr going to…
Looks like it will be the Pittsburgh Penguins winning this one. Nothing official yet, but Twats out there tell me it will be something like 1 year at $2.1M.
Chris Drury will indeed be bought out
Looks like Drury will indeed be bought out, according to this article here.
I didnt know players could waive medical exceptions. Perhaps something similar could happen to Gilbert Brule, but I doubt he’d go for it since he doesn’t have a team lined up.
Updated at 1:20 PM….. James Wisniewski has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a conditional 7th round pick in 2012 (becomes a 5th if the Jackets actually sign him). He will become a UFA if he is not re-signed before Noon ET on July 1st. So the Jackets obviously hope to sign him before then. They will be the only team that can talk to him / his agent in that regard until that deadline.
Updated at 1:56 PM…. Roli re-signs with the Tampa Bay Lightning – 1 year at $3M.

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers are driving on fumes now. I see the effort there, but really they just don’t have the right players in the line up to get it done. So tonight will again be about watching some youngsters. This time it’s not about Eberle/Paajarvi/Hall/Omark, it’s about Hartikainen and, to a lesser extent, Vande Velde. Hartikainen has been earning a lot of respect from Oilers fans for his gritty play. He also has a decent nose for the net too, it would seem. He recorded his first career point (an assist) against Phoenix a couple of games ago. I’m hoping we see a goal from him before the year is up.
Back to the usual suspects, Paajarvi has been a force as of late, now that it’s become obvious that there aren’t many other players on this team that can get it done. He notched an assist against Colorado in the last game, and a goal in the game before (Phoenix). But more notably, he had 8 shots against Colorado. The effort has definitely been there from him.
The Preds are on a 3-game winning streak, and have been a strong 6-2-2 in their last 10. The Oilers have struggled to win with such a young line up. I predict another tough one to watch tonight.
Prediction: 4-1 Predators

PRE-GAME RANT
So, the first game of the post-Dustin Penner era (sorry about the painful photo above…). I fully expect it to be pretty rough. It’s not every day you lose your top scorer (although Hall was tied) in a trade and don’t gain any scoring back. I haven’t heard of any call ups to replace Penner, although Petiot was called up to help the blueline, in Peckham’s absence. He’s still seeing stars after being KO’d by Nathan Horton. Who knew he could fight?
Anyways, I think this one will be a decent one. The last time these two teams faced each other, the Oil won 4-0. I’m hoping for another good outcome, despite the great loss of #27.
Prediction: 3-2 Oil
