GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Phoenix Coyotes
PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers are coming off a very poor performance in Colorado in which Deslauriers kept the score as close as it was. The previous game was a loss against the Wild after two wins (vs. Philadelphia and Carolina). The Coyotes were blanked 4-0 vs. the Stars on Saturday, but their previous six games were win. The two teams have had opposite looking seasons this year. The Oilers are 2-7-1 in the last 10 games while the Coyotes are 7-3-0. The Oilers are 18-33-6 on the year and the Coyotes are nearly the inverse at 35-19-5. This is another good example of a team that has gone through tough years but is seeing the fruits of their labour. With any luck, the Oilers will see the same turnaround soon.
Anyways, I figure another loss, unfortunately (depending on your point of view, I suppose). Prediction: Coyotes 4, Oilers 3. Continue reading 'GDT – Edmonton Oilers 1, Phoenix Coyotes 6 – Feb 8, 2010 @ 7:30 PM – SNET – Game 58'»

I wanted to use the Jets logo, but Racki thought that would be lazy
PRE-GAME RANT
We got our asses kicked on Saturday. But just think, its not so bad. The Blackhawks are going to win the cup this year so at least we lost to a really good team.
I spent the weekend split between one of two states (drunk or hungover) so they had better win and make my head feel better. But its PPV so I won’t be ordering this one, and I’m not sure my brain can handle Mr. Phillips right now.
The oilers need a win, and pronto, or the season is going to reach the point where there is no coming back (of course they will win a bunch at the end and make it look close). Khabibulin is out for his yearly injury break, the coaching staff isn’t pleased with our best player (who is on a career year to date), a group of our veterans had a fantastic meeting with the coaching staff letting them know that they should pull their heads out of their asses (I’m guessing) and …oh crap, I just realized I have a hockey game tonight so I won’t be watching this one.
Oh darn.

Bettman works the jazz hands
MOYES AGREES TO SELL COYOTES TO NHL
Per TSN.
Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes has agreed to sell the bankrupt franchise to the NHL.
The agreement, which still must be approved by Judge Redfield T. Baum, was announced in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Monday after lawyers met for more than an hour during a recess in a status hearing on the case.
…
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly says that once the deal closes, the league will immediately look to sell the team, preferably to an owner who will keep the club in Arizona.
Read more on TSN.ca
The deal is said to be worth about $128M US.

A little off the top...
Oiler Cuts
The Edmonton Oilers assigned eight players today (four defencemen and four forwards), leaving their training camp roster at 34 players. What does this mean? The next game I’m going to will have more regulars in the line up. Yipee!
Assigned to Springfield (AHL): Ryan O’Marra (RW), Alex Plante (D), Jake Taylor (D) and Bryan Young (D)
Assigned to Saskatoon (WHL): Milan Kytnar (C)
Placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment: Dean Arsene (D), Ryan Potulny (C) and Chris Minard (LW).
