So, the Oilers are quite a broken bunch. So broken, that even one of their new callups is questionable for tonight. How’s that happen? That person in question is Ryan O’Marra, who is feeling under the weather. Milan Kytnar has been recalled from the ECHL. That statement alone is crazy, and I never thought I’d hear that. I figured Kytnar would disappear into the system never to be found again.. washing up in Europe at some point. But I’m glad he’s getting a shot, and hopefully he makes the best of it.

The Devils are coming off a 6-3 loss versus the Flames yesterday. Yes, back-to-back games for the Devils. If history serves, that will mean that they will be angry against the Oilers tonight and thump us. Exciting times! Johan Hedberg will get the start tonight.

Things are getting bleaker and bleaker for the Oilers, with the key injuries again, and us already sitting in a familiar spot in the standings. Oi. Sorry for the doom and gloom, folks, but I don’t see it getting any better any time soon.

Targetting New Jersey’s 4th overall pick…

By , June 15, 2011 9:31 am
4th overall pick up for grabs?

4th overall pick up for grabs?

The rumor in the Fourth Period is that the 4th overall pick that New Jersey holds in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft is indeed up for grabs. The thought of it being available isn’t a new one, and we’ve even talked about it a bit here before, but it’s always good to have confirmation. The article notes that the Devils do not have their 2nd round pick. Lou Lamoriello basically noted that he’s open to the idea, so I wouldn’t say he’s trying to get rid of it. However, any time you hear that a top 10 pick is available, you hope that Tambellini is making a phone call… immediately.

So, what are good options for trade bait for this #4 pick? Ales Hemsky? I’m going to have to say that I think our 2nd round pick (31st) plus our 19th pick (from Los Angeles), plus a roster player such as Andrew Cogliano could be enticing enough. However, I am not sure he meets a need. I see that they do need a top 4 defenseman, however. Well, we know the one guy whose name we like to toss around in trade suggestions. However, I think Tom Gilbert’s price tag is enough to scare them off. At any rate, while I have no problems moving Ales Hemsky at some point (due to his injury problems), I actually would prefer that they try and move the 19th and 31st picks and a lesser roster player instead, in this situation.

Feel free to suggest ideas in the comments as to what we could offer up. Or, let us know if you don’t think we should even be looking for another pick (in which case, I can verbally assault you later).

Well, after an unmerciful 6-2 beating at the hands of the Red Wings, after an 7-1 pounding by Hurricanes, it’s hard to get excited about another Oilers game. But this one comes against another struggling team. I think the Oilers can be a better team than they appear to be some nights, so I still expect a win.

Still trying to dig up lineups. I know Dubnyk gets the start tonight. Horcoff is a gametime decision.

Unrelated to hockey, Richie Hall has been canned from the Eskimos. I’ll complete this GDT later today… busy work day for my sorry ass!

Prediction: Oilers 4, Devils 2

Here we go again, another Oilers game. Despite their trend to suck most of the season, I’m interested in watching this one. I missed the last game (the PPV.. no way am I ordering PPV these days), so I’m suffering some withdrawls 😉 I did catch the shootout though, which was spectacular. The Oilers won the game vs. the Wild by a score of 2-1 on a shootout goal by Mike Comrie and some pretty stellar goaltending by Jeff Deslauriers. If only he could do that on a regular basis! The Devils are 3-6-1 in their last 10, while the Oilers are 3-7-0. Both teams are in need of some wins (depending on your view on that!). I’m anxious to get a closer look at Ryan Whitney in Oil blue.

I’ll predict a 3-2 win for the boys in blue tonight.

Lines for Edmonton are a total guesstimation on my part. They were in the Edmonton Sun today, but I didn’t have enough time to memorize them. 😉 If anyone knows them, please mention them in the comments.
