PRE-GAME
Well, I’m sure everyone’s heard it by now, but the Oilers haven’t won a game in Minnesota since Taylor Hall was in diapers (13 straight losses on Minnesota home ice, to be exact). But this team has changed immensely since then.
The Oilers last game, the Oil came out pretty flat, and stayed quite flat, with the exception of “MVP” Nikolai Khabibulin. I use the term MVP with a bit of jest towards Steve Tambellini (who insists he was the team’s MVP before being hurt last year). But quite frankly, he was very solid and kept the Oilers in the game and stole that win. That’s something we really need around here, and I think the Oilers success this year does depend a lot on Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers at Wild – Game 3 – 2010-10-14 @ 6:30 PM – SNET'»

PRE-GAME RANT
Didn’t we just play these assholes? Hmm, just a few weeks ago, it looks like. The Wild took that one 4-2. I’m hoping for a much better result this time around. I’ve proclaimed Deslauriers the starter in this game in my line-ups (not sure if that will be the case, however) because of the “win and you’re in” concept…. the Oilers lost the last game (surprise, surprise), but Deslauriers definitely deserved the win. I’d like to see him get the nod in net again tonight.
So, the Oilers are winless in their last 5 (with 4 of those games being road games). The Wild have one win in that time frame (vs. the Kings). I don’t expect this to be an epic game, by any means, but it would be nice to see the Oilers finish the season with a bang and remind us all that they do still have a backbone.
Prediction: 3-2 Oilers

PRE-GAME RANT
Well, I didn’t get to watch much of last nights game. I did see Peckham take several jersey punches before body slamming Boll though. Was good to see the linesman snuggling up with Boll afterwards. Seriously though, that was potentially pretty dangerous, with Boll hitting his head on the ice like that.
Anyways, on to tonight’s game. The Oilers take on the Wild in St. Paul. The Oilers are currently on a two game losing streak and are 3-6-1 in their last 10. The Wild have won their last 2 and are 4-4-2. The last time these two teams faced (11 days ago), Deslauriers stole one with a 2-1 shootout win. Look for him to play again tonight and hopefully have a similar game.
I’ll call a 3-2 win for the Oil on this one. Have I been right yet this season? I think my record is about 1-68… and I complain about the Oilers’ poor record!

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild
PRE-GAME RANT
Well these GDTs are getting a bit harder to do given the state of affairs here. This one is also a PPV, which makes it doubly hard to watch, but I think I will catch it, if I can, just to see Whitney in the lineup. Anyways, the Oilers are currently on a 3 game losing streak, while the Wild have won their last 2.
There’s some significant changes to our lineup as of late, partly due to trades/waiver pickup, and partly due to injury. The defense lines aren’t known at the moment (although I can say Smid is out for the year), but the forward lines are pretty much set.
Prediction: 4-2 Wild win tonight.

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild
PRE-GAME RANT
Well, they’ve done it again… they’ve pulled off another win with a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. After a month of no wins, it is nice for the “faithful” fans at Rexall to witness what a win is like (the last win previous to these two was December 30th against the Leafs at Rexall Place). So the Oilers are 2-7-1 in their last 10. The Wild, meanwhile, have lost their last 2 (5-2 to San Jose on Saturday and 4-2 to the Stars on Tuesday) and are 4-5-1 in their last 10.
I’d like to see the top line become Penner, Gagner and Brule again tonight, although I’m doubtful that will happen. I also wonder if we’ll see the two Doobies battle it out in net tonight, as both Harding and Backstrom are injured for the Wild. Harding backed up Dubielewicz for the last Wild game, but he’s nursing a hip injury. Since Deslauriers played last night and looked scary at times (despite the shutout), I would think that Dubnyk would get the nod. We shall see.
Since this game is in Minnesota tonight and we generally like to struggle there, from what I recall, I’ll say: 2-1 Minnesota.
