Oilers Quick Hits..

By , April 17, 2013 4:57 pm

So I had an actual work day today, and missed the goings on with the Oil today.

One of them, was an apology from Kevin Lowe for his comments about there being “two types of fans”. I’m pretty sure that anyone offended by his words the other day are going to still be just as offended.

The other was the signing of Yale forward Andrew Miller. This makes me wish I watched the NCAA Frozen Four, but I completely forgot about this. Ah well. It’s a one year deal and I don’t see any problem with this, although we really should be concerned about the number of contracts we have and not waste them on just anyone. The one thing I’ve noticed is this guy is quite small at 5’8, 170lbs. Beyond that, I know nothing about him yet.. but will do some digging.

Justin Schultz was also named the AHL defenseman of the year, which is impressive considering how he only played 34 games there. I’m pretty surprised he didn’t win rookie of the year too. But hey, defenseman of the year is pretty much as good or better.

Most notably:

If the Oilers don’t make the playoffs, Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini will have to resign.
The Oilers need to blow up this team and trade for expiring contracts and draft picks.
If Jim Rutherford can do it in Carolina, why not Kevin Lowe in Edmonton?

They echo a lot of sentiments heard around here. They’re unforgiving and honest articles. Often, I find that journalists are a bit too afraid to tell it like it is, but Staples pulls no punches in his criticisms towards management.
