Kings interested in Hemsky trade.. are we?

THE STORY

I generally take most rumors with a grain of salt, but I figured I’d mention it here since there is some downtime before the next game. The Fourth Period is reporting that the Kings have shown interest in the Oilers. So… should the Oilers really be interested in moving Hemsky? For me, I’d say it would have to take something quite good in return, especially if the Kings are involved.

THE ARGUMENT

On the bad side of things, trading a guy like Hemsky within the conference could be risky. Thankfully we only face the Kings four times per year, however. But I think everyone remembers the pain of trading Pronger within the conference. He’s also easily the best player on the team at the moment. He has a great contract ($4.1M cap hit, expires at the end of next year).

On the good side, he’s one of our more marketable assets, which means he could fetch us a good player. That contract is quite low for a player that is nearly a point-per-game player on a basement dweller. He’s also been fairly injury prone the past few years, so moving him might help in having a body in the lineup that can stay in the lineup.

WHO SHOULD WE TARGET?

So if we’re trading with the Kings, who do we trade for? Well, the obvious one would be Continue reading 'Kings interested in Hemsky – 4th Period'»

First off, I will say that the two team’s records and place in the standings are quite a statement as to how hard it is to make it in the playoffs in the West. The Kings are sitting at 19-12-1… which sounds like a pretty damn good record, but right now that’s only good for 9th place in the West. Yikes. The Oilers have a long way to go if they have any hope of making it in. I haven’t completely written them off yet, and it probably won’t be long before I do… but I still have hopes right now that they win as much as they can.

Anyways, I think tonight should be a fun one to watch for us. I’m going to call this one a 5-2 win for the good guys.

PRE-GAME RANT

Two final games left in the season for the Oilers. Be prepared for an early one. Oddly enough, this one is on Sportsnet too (you would think a Saturday game would be on CBC). I’m going to keep this write up short. The Oilers are 5-4-1 in their last 10, while the Kings are 4-3-3.

Prediction: 4-3 Oilers.

PRE-GAME RANT

Well I missed last night’s game, but it looked like the Moreau show… were there any Moreau to the Kings rumors? We’ll have to see who showcases themselves tonight.

So the Oilers are continuing their fall for hall on this road trip so far, with a perfect 0-4. The Kings lost their last game (4-2 to Anaheim on Monday), but you’re allowed to lose 1 or 2 when you’ve won the previous 9. Hold on to your butts, it’s going to get rough. Another loss tonight, I would think.

Prediction: 6-1 Kings

PRE-GAME RANT

The Oilers return home tonight after an awesome 5 game road trip that saw them go 5-0. I don’t even know the last time they had a 5 game winning streak, but it was at least 3 years ago. Tonight, they face the Los Angeles Kings who are on a streak of their own, having won 4 of their last 5. They did fall to the Canucks in their last game, however, 3-1. In the loss, they also ended up losing Stoll to a groin injury. No Sympathy from the Oilers, however.

The last time these two teams met was November 25, a 3-1 loss. However, that was before the “Awesome Oilers” showed their faces, so hopefully we see a better battle tonight. Heart prediction: 4-3 Oilers in shootout. Brain prediction: 4-2 Kings. I have a feeling the heart is right in this one though.
