Is there a better advertisement for the 50th anniversary of the goaltender mask? I don’t think so.

Khabi-boo-boo-lin

By Racki, October 5, 2009 9:15 am

“My teammates were very supportive. It was great to hear. Nobody wants to have anything like that happen in the last minute of your first game,. The way it happens is not a very nice way to begin with a new team. I think it is the sign of a good team the way they supported me after the game and again this morning.

It was on all those TV places because everybody cares about hockey here. In Canada every good play becomes a great play. And every mistake is magnified. I wouldn’t say it’s any easier but experience helps when something like this happens. Sometimes bad things happen. If something like that happens to you, obviously you’d like it to happen earlier in the game. I didn’t have another shot after that. Mistakes happen for everybody. The next game after is important. Experience teaches you that good things can follow.”

Today was day 2 of camp and there were some positives to take from it. Here is a summary of the days events. Also check here for todays training camp lines.

Visnovsky’s Shoulder

Visnovsky’s shoulder is still an issue. He told Dan Tencer in an interview earlier that it isn’t 100% yet and he’s still having problems with the rotation. He is at least a week away from seeing any action, but he should be recovered in time for the start of the season. ”The shoulder is good, it’s strong. The doctor said I need one more week for re-hab, maybe I’ll miss the first week of the exhibition games,” Visnovsky told reporters. Today was Visnovsky’s first practice since being injured last year in a game vs. Chicago on February 3rd, 2009. Continue reading 'Edmonton Oilers Training Camp – Day 2'»

Numbers Game – Mike Comrie and Khabibulin

By Racki, September 12, 2009 11:02 pm

While Mike Comrie is currently wearing #91 in the training camp, he apparently is trying to contact Doug Weight about using the former Oilers legend’s #39. Comrie has been a fan of his since he was younger and wore the #39 with the Kootenay Ice. Khabibulin will be wearing the number #35.

Nikolai Khabibulin’s New Mask

Khabibulin's new mask ... sexy, yes?

Khabibulin's new mask ... sexy, yes?

First off, thanks to The Goalie Guild for the breaking news, and to David Staples, whose blog brought this to my attention.

Is this effing hot, or what? This thing is gorgeous. On top of the hotness that we behold from the eagle * / wall smashing, we also see Grant Fuhr’s vintage mask in there. Absolutely friggen hot.

Thoughts?

Check out this link to see what his pads look like, from a recent practice.

* – The eagle is likely the two-headed eagle as seen in the Russian Coat of Arms.

UPDATE:

Here are pics from different angles so you can see the whole mask:
