PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers tackle their 3rd game in a span of 4 days tonight at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. It’s been a rough road trip for the team winning only 1 of 5 thus far, but with 2 games left they can still salvage it. They’ll be in tough against the Blues though who have responded well to the bench boss hiring of Ken Hitchcock.
The Oilers have looked much improved the last few games, but took a big hit with the loss of the Nuge for an undetermined amount of time 3-4 weeks with a left shoulder injury. Gilbert also got a rough ride from Carcillo, but being the tough bastard that he is, he took the morning skate but left early. He’s listed as day to day and will sit out for tonight’s game.
Also happening today is the World Juniors Gold Medal game!!! Continue reading 'Oilers 3, Blues 4 – Game 40 – 2012-01-05 @ 6:00 PM MST – SNET OILERS'»

Today’s game is a semifinal between the United States and Canada. No matter how much I build this one up, I can’t build it up enough. Last year’s final between the USA and Canada hurt. It sucked to see Canada lose on their own soil to our neighbors to the south. There is a rivalry between us both.. I don’t have to explain it. Everyone knows about it. Last year, Canadian goaltending was very suspect. This year, it is much of the same. It’s a game I’m worried about, for sure. I’m not sure if the Canadians can do it. I wasn’t sure if the Canadians could beat the Swedes either, so I omitted the prediction there. They ended up losing. Well, since I’m a superstitious guy when it comes to hockey, I’m making a prediction in this one..

Edmonton Oilers prospects Jordan Eberle, Olivier Roy and Philippe Cornet have been named to the 2010 Canadian World Junior Hockey Championships final selection camp (meaning they still could get cut). From TSN – “The players will evaluated by head coach Willie Desjardins and his assistants beginning Dec. 12 and the list will be pared down to a 22-man lineup at the end of selection camp.”
Jordan Eberle is 2nd in WHL scoring Behind fellow 19 year old Brandon Kozun, who has played 5 more games and has just 1 more point. Eberle has 23 goals, 27 assists for 50 points in 24 games.
Of goalies that have played in 10 or more games so far this year, Olivier Roy is ranked 9th amongst QMJHL goales in GAA, 14th in SV%, and 6th in wins.
Philippe Cornet has 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points in 30 games with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. Cornet is 2nd in scoring in the QMJHL, 3 points behind teammate Gabriel Levesque (32 games played).
