I know I’m getting hit. I brace myself for those hits. It’s not like I don’t know it’s coming… it’s not like I have my head down the whole time. It’s just I have to go to those places. If I’m just staying on the wall and waiting for my pass – the seam pass – when I’m moving my feet or standing still, and then I make a soft chip, that’s an average play. That’s how I’ve always played my game. Just on the edge, desperate, aggressive and just trying to make plays all over.
– Taylor Hall, when Kevin Lowe asked him about the concerns of his tendency to be hit hard and how being hit by a guy like Chara at the NHL level could be quite a bit worse.
Dan Tencer had an interview with Taylor Hall today. You can listen to the interview here.
Here are a couple of highlights though: Continue reading 'Millhouse Interviews Taylor Hall'»
International Scouting Services Final Draft Rankings for 2010 released
I will say I follow the ISS scouting a fair bit more than I do CSS. However, I’m still anxious to hear what Bob McKenzie has to say. Anyways, no change to the top five:
ISS ranks Jack Campbell as the top goaltender, and Chet Pickard as the second best goaltending prospect.
Michael Granlund also moved up to 15th from 17th, and has been deemed this draft group’s best playmaker and puckhandler (however he is another small player). I wonder if the Oilers could snag him as a complement to Toni Rajala. We’ve seen small players drop in rankings quite quickly before, so maybe we could get him first in round 2. Or perhaps a deal may be out there for a second first rounder. Personally though, if we get another high first round pick, I’d like it to be for a defenseman (assuming it’s not the #2 pick), however.
ISS had Hall as #1 in April, and Seguin as #1 in March.
The great debate.. Tyler Seguin or Taylor Hall?
One of my favorite blogs out there is Coming Down The Pipe, hosted by Guy Flaming and Dean Millard. These two are very knowledgeable when it comes to young prospects. Recently, they interviewed Oilers GM Steve Tambellini and Director of NHL Central Scouting E.J. McGuire on their show and asked some pretty good draft related questions such as the great Taylor Hall vs. Tyler Seguin debate.
The full audio of the interview can be downloaded from their site here. But read on for a summary of the interview if you can not download/listen…. Continue reading 'Coming Down The Pipe interview – E.J. McGuire and Steve Tambellini'»
Well, the series wrapped up with Windsor sweeping the series on a 3-2 win in game 4. This time around, Hall was held pointless and remained even. Ditto for Seguin, while Fowler had 1 assist and was +1.
Thanks to gr8one for bringing up a couple of recent articles on the draftees:

Also, the Edmonton Sun has an article on why Seguin topped the list.
Just a reminder that the draft lottery is settled this coming Tuesday (April 13, 2010).
We will likely prep a collection of draft info for around that time.
