Doing what he does best...not helping us win games/helping us draft high.

Doing what he does best…not helping us win games/helping us draft high.

Continuing on with the break it down series. The others can be found at the following location.

Nothing has changed. Same group as last year. Except I have more faith that Dubnyk can do it, and more faith that Kreuger will bench that shitty one.

Break it Down! – Goaltending (2011/12 Edition)

Just think, to have a good goalie again.

Continuing on with the break it down series. The others can be found at the following location.

I called last years goaltending situation a clusterfuck. It looks better this year. No really. It does. Dubnyk has proven to be at the very least a NHL level backup. That’s a plus. Khabibulin has one less year on his contract. That’s a plus. It is quite possible he learned how to be more nimble in prison too.

And the winner of the backup is….

Not you... but nice save, Jeff

Not you... but nice save, Jeff

The Oilers have made their goaltending decision, at last…. Jeff Deslauriers has been placed on waivers. I think they made the right choice. I kind of figured that was what happened when Delsauriers was said to be not at practice today. MacIntyre and Whitney also absent.. hmm…….. some sort of deal in the works? Nah, just trying to scare you folks (Whitney is taking a “rest day” – which I’d say he needed). I wonder if a callup will be made though. Jacques will be back in a couple of weeks (apparently), so they could be making room for him, but I’ll suspect that they’ll bring someone up in the meantime. If waivers are no issue, I hope it’s Belle or Reddox.

From the stack of appropriate pictures

And I finally get around to continuing on with the break it down series. The others can be found at the following location.

This one will specifically talk about the goaltending situation, and what a clusterfuck it is. Our starting goalie, one might say our “MVP”, is a drunk felon (not to mention injury prone and not very good outside of contract years), we have two goalies who are young (JDD I think showed that he needs more seasoning in the A, DD didn’t get a big enough showcase in my opinion) and we have Gerber.

The sad thing is I personally think that Gerber is the best goalie we have right now. Certainly on the best contract of the bunch.

Doobie Snuffed, Pitton Recalled

The new backup goalie..

The new backup goalie..

Devan Dubnyk has been sent back to Springfield, and Bryan Pitton has been recalled in his place. My theory on that is it is in mercy to Springfield. These guys are waving the white flag. Since Dubnyk was recalled, the Falcons haven’t won a single game (in 8 games played). Previous to Dubnyk being recalled, they were competing for the Eastern Conference in the AHL. Pray that Deslauriers doesn’t get hurt mid-game.

The goalie swap also helps Dubnyk, since collecting rust on the bench isn’t doing him much good.

Official Oilers writeup:

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled goaltender Bryan Pitton from Springfield of the American Hockey League. They have also reassigned Devan Dubnyk to Springfield.

Pitton has appeared in 13 games this year with the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League. He has a 4-7-1 record with a 3.28 GAA and .907 SV%. The 21-year-old netminder was called up to Springfield when the Oilers recalled Dubnyk last month.
