Oiler RFA’s Qualified

By , June 28, 2010 7:10 pm

Racki seems to be slacking off on the Oilers news front (moving), so I’ll have to pick up some of the slack here.

Today from the Oilers site:

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have issued qualifying offers to the following players:

Gilbert Brule
Andrew Cogliano
Jeff Deslauriers
Devan Dubnyk
Colin Fraser
Sam Gagner
Jean-Francois Jacques
Ryan O’Marra
Theo Peckham
Liam Reddox

I don’t like the fact that Pouliot didn’t get qualified, but other than that it looks pretty standard. I’m expecting deals to be announced going forward for a few of the players, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Poo gets an offer from the Oilers as an UFA for league min.

Sam Gagner – Enforcer

Sam Gagner vs. Craig Conroy Fight

For those that missed it, here is the fight video again. Now obviously the “Enforcer” title for Sam Gagner is purely tongue in cheek, but he actually held his own pretty well. According to HockeyFights.com, Gagner was 1-1 going into the fight (with a win over Ryan Kesler – hmmmm – and a loss to Jack Johnson). Craig Conroy also only had 2 bouts, with one being a loss to Jared Boll in 2008, and the other being a fight way back in 2000 vs. Jarome Iginla that was unranked on HockeyFights.com, but I can tell you (as you would expect) that Conroy did not do well. So he was 0-2 going into the bought. So far, Gagner is winning the ranking on the fight by about 5%. That’s pretty impressive, given that Gagner was at the disadvantage being up against “old man power”.

So, shame on Craig Conroy for instigating a fight with Sam Gagner, right? Even Quinn pondered “I don’t know where the instigator went” during Hockey Night in Canada’s After Hours segment. Well, believe it or not, it was Sam Gagner’s idea. Continue reading 'Sam Gagner – Enforcer'»

Quinn’s Doghouse

The New Doghouse - Ales Hemsky and Sam Gagner

Every coach has their own Doghouse. One guy that struggled but never seemed to end up in it (until now) was Sam Gagner. Ales Hemsky has always garnered respect, but some of what Quinn has said since getting here leads me to believe that none of the players are going to be exempt from being bumped down a line if they don’t play a strong team game. You can have a strong individual game, but it will have no meaning under Quinn (not to say that MacTavish was different in that regard).

Here is the running list of quotes that point towards the skill players being in Quinn’s not-so-awesome books:

Current Oilers play for Knights in Euro Can Cup

The London Free Press posted an article today about Rob Schremp, who is currently playing for the London Knights Pro team in the Euro Can Cup. In addition to Schremp, the London Knights Pro team features current Edmonton Oilers Sam Gagner and Marc Pouliot (the three play the top PP together), and former Oilers Dan Syvret and Alex Henry. Sam’s dad Dave also has made an appearance in the first game, in which both of the Gagner’s each scored 2 goals. Full London Knights Pro roster here: http://eurocancup.com/londonroster.html
The Euro Can Cup runs from August 25th – August 31st and also includes teams EV Zug, Linz Black Wings, and EHC Munchen. Each team will play a three-game round robin. Looks like the 2nd and 3rd place teams will play a semi-final game on August 30th, and the winner will then play the 1st place team on August 31st to determine the winner of the tournament.
So far, reports have been that Rob Schremp has looked pretty good in the tourney, having scored 2 goals and assist in the most recent game Friday, vs. EV Zug. In 2 games so far, Sam Gagner has 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points, Rob Schremp has 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points, and Marc Pouliot has 5 points.
The London Knights roster takes another twist tonight as Detroit Red Wing Todd Bertuzzi is slated to play. http://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/Bertuzzi_In_The_Lineup_Tonight_For_The_London_Knights/1077915
