PRE-GAME RANT

So, unfortunately the Flames continued their dominance over the Oilers, with the last game being a 5-1 loss. That puts our last win over Calgary at September 15, 2009 (in pre-season) in a 4-1 win. But the stage was set for a great end to the pre-season with some good action in the Battle of Alberta. The game was good for 40 minutes or so, but the Oilers just couldn’t stay out of the box, and that eventually cost them, despite some really good PKs. Khabibulin might have been hammered on Friday too, as at one point during a commercial break, he ran over one of the ice crew girls, drawing a comment from my girlfriend’s dad of “he skates like he drives”.

I’m hoping that the final pre-season game will be an ugly one, but not on the scoresheet. The first game had some good rough stuff, with a fantastic scrap between Ivanans and MacIntyre, a decent fight between Vandermeer and Jackman, and a tussle between Gingerballs and Whothefuckcares.

Lineups will be added when they are made available, but Millhouse already mentioned that the following players will be in the lineup, in a last ditch effort to evaluate talent: Peckham, Petiot and Belle on defense, Omark, Giroux, O’Marra, Ondrus and Jones at forward. The next round of cuts will be made on Monday.

And on an unrelated note, for you folks in the pool, don’t forget the pool drafts are tonight. For those of you in the first pool (“Foiled Again”) the draft starts at 8:00PM MDT. For those of you in the second pool (“Foiled Again Too”), the draft starts at 9:15PM MDT. You should show up a bit early, and you might want to rank your players before then, in case something happens where you can’t make the draft on time or at all.

PRE-GAME RANT

Well, the rosters have reduced, the young guns are all in the lineup, and the goons are dressed to protect them.  Still preseason, but…

“LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!”

The battle of Alberta starts off tonight with the Oilers having the home field advantage.  Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers vs. Flames – Pre-season Game 5 – 2010-10-01 @ 7:00 PM – SNET1 (SHAW – yup, TELUS – highly likely, Bell – When hell freezeth over)'»

Details available here.

Edit (done deal): The Leafs also orchestrated another trade, sending Toskala and Blake to the Ducks for Giguere. Good deal for the Leafs. Toskala’s contract expires this year and is a cap hit of $4M. Blake’s is a $4M cap hit and expires at the end of 2012. Giguere is a big goaltending upgrade, and his cap hit is $6M and expires at the end of 2011.

Edit2: In what is turning out to be a pretty busy day, it looks like the Flames will send Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust to the New York Rangers. Possibly coming back is Ales Kotalik (for sure) and Chris Higgins (not sure on that one). This is per Darren Dreger of TSN. Busy guy today.

GDT - The Battle For A Win - Oilers at Flames

PRE-GAME RANT

Oh it’s on, folks. Hockey Day In Canada… the Battle of Alberta. What more could you ask for? Well, a win tonight sure as hell would be nice. Forget about the Dive for Five, Tank for Taylor/Tyler, Saggin’ for Seguin, Foul-up for Fowler or whatever you want to call it. This is the battle for ultimate hockey supremacy. OK, maybe not quite that big, but it sure would feel good to see a win tonight, no?

As we all know, the Oilers are sitting at 12 straight losses (including OT/Shootout losses), and have 1 one win in their last 20. The Flames are winless in 9 games. This is the battle for a bloody win. And let’s hope it’s a bloody, spirited game. If these teams come out flat, I’ll be surprised. This is the type of game that SHOULD bring out the fight in both teams. And with it being in Calgary’s barn, I’d love to see an Edmonton win tonight. Calgary is also on the verge of sweeping the season series, and the Oilers can not let that happen!

No heart/brain prediction tonight.. just one prediction: 5-2 Oilers.
