Hopefully Hemsky and Hall can look beyond the all star invites and focus on the game at hand tonight. Also congrats to Eberle who also got an invite if he’s healthy enough to attend.
This is the first matchup with the Stars this season and they aren’t to be taken lightly having greatly turned things around after finishing 12th in the West last year.
The Oilers will be in tough again with an inexperienced pairing of Chorney and Petry rounding out the 6 defenseman tonight. They’re also experimenting with Hall at center. It’s not new to Hall who spent some time at the position in junior, but this will be his first go at the NHL level.
The Oilers head into Dallas tonight to face another non-playoff team in the Stars. The Oilers have lost their last 3 games and are officially a lock for 30th place. The Stars are having an interesting pattern in their last 10 games.. lose one, win one, lose one, win one, etc… if things keep going that way, they’re due for a loss again, as their last game was a 5-1 win over the Stars, courtesy of a Steve Ott hattrick.
I’m going to see Dave Attell (spelling? I have no idea who this guy is but I hear he’s funny) tonight so I’ll probably miss this game. Darn. Racki said he’s still going to watch the game, so it would be nice if you all swung on by during the game to say hi to him. It might be lonely here.
The Oilers have played better as of late, and are due a win so I bet it comes tonight when I can’t see it.
Ideally the player get their pride back and start to play as they can, and we can string together a few wins here.
It’s an early one today in Texas. The Oilers are currently riding the ever-dangerous one game winning streak, coming off of a 4-1 win vs. the Detroit Dead Things who forgot to show up to the game. But despite the Red Wings poor performance, the Oilers were still at the top of their game and deserved the win. The Stars are also HOT… with their one game winning streak as well, after a 3-1 win over Anaheim on Thursday. Amidst all the drama of to-blow-up-or-not-to-blow-up, we might have an OK game here. I’m going to start a new prediction idea – 2 predictions: one with my heart, one with my brain. The heart prediction is the one that is heavily swayed by the Oil fan in me that will never predict a loss, even in the worst of situations. The brain prediction is the one that throws that all away and votes completely based on what I consider logic.
Heart’s prediction: 5-3 Oilers
Brain’s prediction: 4-3 Oilers in OT.
(Fast forward to 4:00) Thankfully I was too hammered to leave this game early.
Note: Both Steve-O and Racki are away on vacation. We’ve left the ship on autopilot. So if some kick ass news happens like trading for Kovalchuk, pretend like you heard it here first, and pretend like this post still makes sense Racki is back September 10th.
So earlier, I was listening to the morning show on TEAM 1260 and they were interviewing Kelly Buchberger. Beforehand though, they replayed the audio for CBC’s coverage of Game 3 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Dallas Stars in the 1997 playoffs. For those of you that can’t recall, this was one of the greatest moments in Oilers history, and I had the pleasure of being there at Northlands. Anyways, I kid you not, hearing it on the radio gave me goosebumps, hair standing up on my neck, and everything.
With the Oilers down 3-0 in the 3rd period, the game seemingly out of reach, most fans were making a break for the doors. Quite frankly, my first thoughts were to break for the doors as well. However, a few things stopped me. One, I was with 2 girls I worked with at the time (this was the first game they’d been to live.. talk about luck), there was no way I was ending that fun early. Two, I was shlammered on Northlands mystery beer (what do they put in that stuff?). And three, since everyone was in a rush to leave and “beat the traffic”…. they were creating more traffic now than there would be if I stayed. So the 3 of us decided to wait it out. And well, what a fucking fantastic idea that turned out to be. I recall a friend of mine telling me a story about how he went to this game as well, but he didn’t wait it out and ended up madly scrambling to get back to the game when it was 3-2.
I’m sure almost all of you know the story, but the Oilers came back to win that one in a thrilling overtime on a Kelly Buchberger goal. Watch the video above for more details, but the Oilers went on to take the series in 7, and then lost to Colorado the next round.
So I wonder… what are some of the best games you guys have been to live, hockey or otherwise? Or perhaps your best TV memory? Hit up the comments section…
