PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers lost a stinker against the Wild last night. The effort was there from some of the team, but I thought that in particular, our defense was completely missing in action. Some of those goals were horrid. I’m all for giving criticism to Khabi when due, but there were a few big brain lapses where a wild player was in alone on him.
Anyways, the Oiler are going to have to give their collective heads a shake and get in this one. Tonight they’ll have at least two changes to the lineup: Brule is in (likely for Omark, by the sounds of it) and Strudwick is in for Chorney. I haven’t heard anything, but I would guess that Dubnyk will get the start tonight too.
The Avs sit in 2nd last in the conference, but somewhat surprisingly have 7 more wins than us.. I guess it just goes to show how bad the season has been. The Oilers have one win and one loss (in shootout) versus the Avs. I hope tonight will be another tight game between the two teams.
Prediction: 3-2 Oilers

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers injury woes continue yet again. I’ll get this over with quickly, ripping it off like a band-aid. Things are bad for Ryan Whitney, reports are saying. Don’t expect him back anytime soon. He is in a cast and surgery might be down the road. Per Joanne Ireland: “Whitney may have dislocated ankle tendon.”
Whitney is really disappointed: “For 3 yrs I was pretty much unhealthy & playing mediocre hockey … I got back to the player I know I can be, then this happens. I finally feel Continue reading 'GDT Oilers 3, Avalanche 4 (SO) – Game 36 – 2010-12-30 @ 7:30 PM – TSN'»

PRE-GAME RANT
Game day again, folks. Lately that hasn’t been a very exciting time for us. But the way this roller coaster ride has gone, you never know if the Oil could show up for a game. This game also should mark the return of Ladislav Smid, as Shawn Belle was returned back to Oklahoma City. Smid has been out of the lineup since November 14th, while he tried to figure out how to tamper with the brakes on Sean Avery’s car.
The Avs are sitting in a decent spot so far this year, at 7th in the West. The Oilers of course remain in hockey hell, in dead last in the West, with the Islanders making a slightly stronger Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 3, Avalanche 2 – Game 21 – 2010-11-25 @ 7:00 PM – TSN'»

PRE-GAME RANT
Before we start in on Oilers talk, let’s just kick this GDT off by giving thanks to the hockey gods for the Flames being eliminated from making the playoffs last night. Last place in the league doesn’t sound so bad after all, does it? Welcome to Oilers purgatory, Calgary. That’s that place where you claw at 8th place in hopes of making it in, but often end up just missing it (and thus getting a crummy pick in the draft). I don’t think they’re quite at the “blow up the team” stage like we were yet, but I think the future looks a bit brighter for the Oil (for once). Sadly, you have to hit rock bottom in this league to be able to build a strong team sometimes.
Anyways, the Oilers play their last home game tonight vs. the Avalanche at 7:30 on Sportsnet West tonight. The Avalanche clinched their playoff spot last night with a squeaker over Vancouver in a 3-2 win. The Avalanche have won just 3 of their last 10 games (3-6-1). The Oilers came off a pretty good performance vs. the Wild on Monday in which they won 4-1. They are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games. Dustin Penner scored his 30th and 31st of the season and looks to add on to it, saying he will be aiming for 35. What a great season for him it has been, and a bitter sweet one, in his own words.
The Avalanche are 3-2-0 in the season series vs. Edmonton so far, including the last two wins (3-0 February 6th and 6-0 January 18th). However, I’m going to predict a win for the Oilers tonight.
Prediction: 5-4 Oilers. Continue reading 'GDT – Edmonton Oilers 5, Colorado Avalanche 4 (OT) – April 7, 2010 @ 7:30 PM – SNET – Game 80'»

GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Colorado Avalanche
PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers big 2 game winning streak came to a halt versus the Wild on Thursday where they were felled 4-2. They are 2-1-0 so far this month after going a whole month without a win. The Colorado Avalanche have just 1 win in their last 5 games after going on a 6 game winning streak. They’ll look to get things back under control against a fellow struggling team. The Oilers are 2-7-1 in their last 10 and the Avalanche are 6-4-0 in their last 10.
Something tells me this will be another loss for the Oilers tonight. Prediction: CBC commentators will rip into the Oilers for being such a poor team at this that, and the other thing and mention how Dustin Penner looks lazy out there again. The last game these two teams played against each other, the Avalanche won 6-0.
Prediction: 4-1 for Colorado
