PRE-GAME RANT
Oh boy, two teams headed in different directions. Hawks are 8-2 in the last 10, and the Oil are the opposite… Time to turn things around. Well, that would have been 4 or 5 games ago, so we’re far passed time to turn it around. Game 3 of the season that these two teams face off, with the Oilers winning the last contest a lopsided 9-2. Hopefully there are no hard feelings.
Dubnyk slots in tonight and Teemu Hartikainen has been recalled with Petrell going down to make room for the move. I really liked what I saw from Teemu last year. Hopefully he injects some enthusiasm into the line up that will kick start this young squad back to the right side of winning. Jones has skated with the team as well after leaving late after a blocked shot in the Isles game.

PRE-GAME RANT
It’s been less than a week since we last played the Blackhawks, and it was an ungraceful 6-3 loss. Tonight we’ll be without the services of a couple important d-pieces in Andy Sutton and Cory Potter (although we probably wouldn’t have called them important before season the started, they sure are now). Colton Teubert has been called up, and Taylor Chorney has been claimed off waivers, and they will be filling the void, at least for tonight. Khabibulin gets the start tonight, and I’m not really sure that’s the smartest idea at all. He hasn’t been bad, for the most part, but he also hasn’t been that same goalie that started the season and was stealing games for us. Plus, it’s tough to justify putting in a guy that just allowed 6 goals against this very same team less than a week ago.
The Oilers might play a better game against the Hawks tonight to start (much like the Senators), but I still figure a crappy loss, especially with our 3rd d-pairing now our send pairing.
Prediction: 5-2

PRE-GAME RANT
The plus is that the Oilers took both games at United Center last year. The negative is that the Blackhawks won the last two games between these teams (and quite handily – 4-1 and 5-0). The Oilers are having a rough go with this road trip as is too, although they are 2-3-0, at least. A win tonight will break this road trip even, which is all you can really ask for a team.
In some sad news today, Kyle Fundytus, an Edmonton teeanger, died today from injuries suffered from a game at Clareview arena yesterday. He was struck in the neck by the puck and had undergone surgery. Condolences to his friends and family.
Prediction: 4-1 Edmonton.. in hopes we break even on this road trip!

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers are on FIRE, after a commanding 4-0 victory over the Predators. Not only did they get 4 goals past one of the best goaltenders in the league (2nd in GAA, if I recall correctly), but they pitched a shutout. The playoffs are surely in sight now. Of course, I am being tongue-in-cheek here, but it was a nice win. The Hawks have lost their last 2, and currently sit below the playoff cutoff line, 3 points back of the shames.
Prediction: 5-2 Oilers. Doobie better be in net for this one…

PRE-GAME RANT
Well it seems these days like the only team that the Oilers can beat are the Chicago Blackhawks. Here we are with 16 games behind us, and the Blackhawks account for half of our tremendous 4 wins – 1 dominant win in the opener against the Flames, another in the second game of the season, against Florida that the Oil likely didn’t deserve and 2 good (if not great) performances against the Blackhawks. If you’re doing the math, that means the Oilers haven’t beaten anyone, aside from the Hawks, since the first two games.
How is Renney handling this? Well his mantra is “keep it simple, stupid”. While it doesn’t seem to be working yet, I do like what I hear from Renney so far. Sometimes guys just don’t get it, but you have to keep bringing them back to those basics (albeit cliché). MacTavish’s biggest knock was that he was too complex of a coach for his players… too many instructions… too many criticisms. Hockey might not be rocket science, but the average player isn’t anywhere near a rocket scientist either, so Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 0, Blackhawks 5 – Game 17 – 2010-11-17 @ 7:30 PM – SNET1'»
