PRE-GAME

Alrighty folks. Big break again since our last game on Friday, so I’m excited as hell for this one. Just when we get some momentum going, the league throws us a curveball of some time off. Hopefully this hasn’t cause the Oil to cool off. They won big in Chicago (7-4) after putting together a more honest effort (than previous games) against the Flames in a shootout loss. Let’s hope that they keep things going and take it to the Canucks.

Prediction: 5-1 Oilers (I’m crazy) Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 3, Canucks 4 – Game 10 – 2010-11-02 @ 7:00 PM – SNET'»

The Canucks and Oilers meet again, tonight. The Oilers won the first match with a line up of scraps versus some of Vancouver’s best. This time, the tables turn, as Vancouver sits the Sedin twins and most of their better players. We will get to see Cody Hodgson in action, however.

This will also be our first look at the always dynamic Jason Strudwick. This inspired a tweet from TSN’s Ryan Rishaug of: “Line of the day-strudwick to matheson when asked about finally playing an exhibition game.. ‘The fans were clamoring for me..’”.

Nikolai Khabibulin will also get his first start since we back in November of last year. “I’m very interested to see how it’ll go. I don’t anticipate any problems with my back. I think it’ll be fine. I don’t expect any setbacks,” said Khabibulin. “It’s going to be a good test, though. I haven’t played any games. I can work on some things, and the games don’t count.”

Here are the line ups for tonight:

Knocked him the f--- out!!!!

Well, it’s the first game of the pre-season… this should be exciting. Or not… our team is laden with knuckle draggers and grinders, while the Canucks are icing a good team. But here are the lineups (per Jason Gregor at Oilers Nation). Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 3, Canucks 2 – Pre-season Game 1 – 2010-09-22 @ 8:00 PM – SNET ONE'»

PRE-GAME RANT

Well, the Oilers are now on a big 2 game winning streak, after taking it to Dany Heatley and the San Jose Sharks on Sunday. Those guys are in serious trouble, as they seem to be falling into their annual, end of the year / playoff meltdown already. The Oilers seem to be playing a bit better, in light of having the weight of the world off their shoulders now, and also a bit more improved defensive play, for the most part (despite having a pretty inexperienced crew) – although they definitely need to work on holding a lead, as usual. As far as the Canucks, they seem to be going fairly strong, being 6-2-2 in their last 10.

Vancouver has taken 4 of the 5 games so far this season. I think they’ll likely take this one as well.

Prediction: 5-2 Vancouver

PRE-GAME RANT

I can cut and past the previous GDT nearly word for word, just have to change the loss count… The slide continues with our most recent 6-0 beat down by Colorado, a game where the team showed little to no fight. As many others I’m sure, I didn’t purchase the PPV, so what I was left with were highlights. Not pretty. JDD let in 6, but for the most part they were all very nice goals with some precision passing occurring around our pylons. Quinn and company skated the team into the ground last practice with very little time on ice for the bag of pucks, so hopefully they saved a little bit of energy to take on the Canucks tonight.

For Canuck fans, they are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games, most recently outscoring the Pens in a 6-2 victory. They should be well rested as they haven’t played since the 16th. Defenseman Willie Mitchell will not be dressed for tonight’s game.

My prediction for tonight, a Sedin will be on the score board. I know, I know, it’s pretty bold, but I’m going to stand by it.
