GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks

PRE-GAME RANT

I can cut and past the previous GDT nearly word for word, just have to change the loss count… The slide continues with our most recent 6-0 beat down by Colorado, a game where the team showed little to no fight. As many others I’m sure, I didn’t purchase the PPV, so what I was left with were highlights. Not pretty. JDD let in 6, but for the most part they were all very nice goals with some precision passing occurring around our pylons. Quinn and company skated the team into the ground last practice with very little time on ice for the bag of pucks, so hopefully they saved a little bit of energy to take on the Canucks tonight.

For Canuck fans, they are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games, most recently outscoring the Pens in a 6-2 victory. They should be well rested as they haven’t played since the 16th. Defenseman Willie Mitchell will not be dressed for tonight’s game.

My prediction for tonight, a Sedin will be on the score board. I know, I know, it’s pretty bold, but I’m going to stand by it.

PRE-GAME RANT

Happy shopping insanity day for all you fellow Canadians. Tonight, the Oil take on the Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers had put together a 5-game road stand before the wheels fell off the bus (again) and a 5-game losing streak was built up including 4 straight home losses. The Oilers are deathly cold. The Canucks, on the other hand, have won 5 of their last 7. One thing to note is that the Canucks are 21-16-0… no OT Losses, and are 5 games over 0.500, but are only in 9th. Can we now put to bed this “0.500 hockey” business? 0.500 hockey is now a way of saying your team is bad, but not that bad.

Predictions time. My predictions today are only partly based on the level of suckage the Oilers have been putting on lately. They are also partly based on the Canucks doing well, and seemingly having our number on a lot of occasions (including an ass-kicking back at the end of November).

Brain prediction: 8-3 Vancouver
Heart prediction: 6-4 Vancouver

Prepare for another ugly one.

PRE-GAME RANT

Looks like I’ll be PVR’ing this game and playing it back. Thanks to the shaw guide being all effed up, my recording is a bit weird… recording “Judge Judy” and exending it for an extra 2 hours (cause it’s that good) then recording CSI right after. No, I’m not really recording those shows… that’s my attempt at PVR’ing the hockey game because Shaw (or City TV… whoever is responsible) hasn’t updated the guide to show that hockey game on there.

Anyways, the Oilers have had a 4 day break to think about why we’ve created new forum threads/blog posts/newspaper articles on why they stink so much this year and how to fix them. The last Oiler game was a 7-3 ass kicking by the Vancouver Canucks. As for the Red Wings, they’ve won their last two (against Dallas and in a shootout against St. Louis), but lost the 3 before that (to Calgary, Atlanta and Nashville). So they’re looking human right now too.

Don’t forget, it’s an early one… 5:00 on City TV. Play by play will be provided by Tim Spelliscy. Ok.. not really.

PRE-GAME RANT

The Oilers are coming off a mostly impressive performance against the league’s best team. Most, including myself, didn’t think the Oilers had the horses in the line-up (especially without Hemsky) to run with the Sharks, but they managed to get a point, despite blowing a 3-1 lead early on and a 4-3 lead with under 2 minutes to go in the game. Inspiring performances by Brule, Potulny, Cogliano and Penner, in particular, helped keep the Oilers in the game the whole time. Deslauriers also made some key saves at points of the game, despite looking a little shakey at points.

The Canucks are coming off 3 wins in their last 4 games, including back-to-back wins over the Avalanche (including an 8-2 romping), and a 4-1 victory over the Kings. The Oilers are going to have to be at the top of their game again to win this one. Look for good performances from Brule and Potulny again to lead the way. Also, the Oilers played last night, so will Dubnyk get the start or will it be Deslauriers again? That remains to be seen, but I’ll update this post accordingly when information is available. PRE-GAME RANT

Tonight marks the second regular season meeting between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks for this year. Edmonton won the game 2-1 on some spectacular play from Nikolai Khabibulin. Khabibulin stopped 39 of 40 shots, excluding the shot that went in just after the buzzer sounded. Hopefully the Oilers can get ahead in the game again and do an even better job of protecting the lead this time. Tonight it’s partly up to Jeff Deslauriers though, as he gets the nod in goal for just his second start this season.

I’m calling it a 3-2 win for the Oilers tonight.

PRE-GAME RANT

This is the first regular season meeting of the two teams this year, however the teams met twice in the pre-season. The Oilers lost the first one 3-1 while the Oil won the second one 5-4 in OT. The Oilers are coming off of a decisive 5-2 win over the Wild, while the Canucks also came off a win versus the Wild with a final score of 2-1. Tonight’s game will be televised on Sportsnet and is a 7:00 start. Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers vs. Canucks – Oct 19, 2009 – Game 8'»

PRE-GAME RANT

Well I don’t know how many people are going to see this but Racki is working his ass off to get things running again.

Anyways I test drove a WRX today. Stupid amounts of fun.

Oh yeah, and the Oil are playing the canucks. We are awesome, they suck so the outcome should be in our favor but I think I just jinxed it. Damn.

My head hurts…
Oh, and here are the lines. I jacked them straight from the 630 ched site. Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 1, Canucks 3 – Pre-season Game 4 – 2009-09-19'»
