PRE-GAME RANT

Taylor vs. Tyler is the story tonight. Do we care how well Tyler does? Well, other than to keep our goals against down, I say no. Tyler Seguin is a very good player, but I’m happy with what we got. Seguin’s success or lack of success doesn’t dictate how the draft went, imho.. it’s about how well Taylor Hall is doing here, and I think he’s easily one of the best players we’ve had here in ages. ‘Nuff said on that.

The former cup champions are off to quite a slow start this year, being 6-7-0 and the 4th worst team in the NHL standings right now. The Oilers, meanwhile, sit near the top with a shocking 9-3-2 start and the third highest point total in the NHL, thanks a lot to great goaltending and some much better team defense. I’ll give play by Gilbert and Smid a huge nod there too, especially. Continue reading 'Oilers 3, Bruins 6 – Game 15 – 2011-11-10 @ 5:00 PM MST – SNET EDM'»

PRE-GAME RANT

So today the Oilers face the Bruins in their only match of the 2010/11 season. The Bruins are 6-4-0 in their last 10, and the Oilers are 5-5-0. The Oil stunk the joint up against the Blues, losing 5-0 on Friday. The Oilers will get a bit of help tonight in the form of Gilbert Brule. Taylor Chorney is still out though with knee problems.

This will also mark the first matchup of 2010′s top draftees – Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. So far Taylor Hall seems to be winning the race between the two by a landslide, but it’s definitely a marathon, as both of these guys should have long, productive careers (one can hope, anyways).

Prediction: 4-2 Oilers. Really, they should lose this one, but I generally like how we play eastern teams.

FAIRLY EDUCATEDLY GUESSTIMATED LINES

PRE-GAME RANT

Happy Halloween everyone! Saturday’s game is a morning game, so I thought I should get something off ahead of schedule for people to talk in. The Boston Bruins are coming off a nightmarish 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. The Edmonton Oilers looked to be on their way to a blood bath of the Detroit Dead Things when in the third period, the visitors awoke from the dead. Ok, that’s enough lame Halloween analogies for now! The Oilers got off to a quick 4-0 lead, and then a 5-1 lead, and the Red Wings battled back to eventually tie the game at 5-5 to force overtime and a shootout. Let’s hope that the Oilers can take care of business against the Bruins and play 3 periods of hockey this time.
