Interesting, can’t see who it would be.. Kaberle (NTC waived?), Kessel, no one I could really see going but who else?
By Haboiler, January 31, 2010 @ 9:52 am Haboiler(Quote)
From TSN: Details of who the Flamers get in return is still unknown, but when asked if forwards Matt Stajan and Niklas Hagman were main components in the deal, a source told TSN, “it’s bigger than that.”
By DropIt, January 31, 2010 @ 9:53 am DropIt(Quote)
I cant see Kessel… but you would think Calgary gets a GOOD Dman back, seeing as how they lost both Aulie and Phaneuf… Maybe a Komisarek or Baeuchemin?
and we had to have gotten some offense in numbers here
By Horpensky, January 31, 2010 @ 9:53 am Horpensky(Quote)
Holy crap the NHL world suddenly exploded. Our two hated rivals make a huge trade. While Tambo waits till the trade deadline to do anything.
By zackman35, January 31, 2010 @ 9:54 am zackman35(Quote)
Haha watch them get Jamal Mayers and future considerations just to open up cap room to make a potentially bigger trade. =p
Oh and Racki, you should whip up an aesthetically pleasing template for a trade post for POTF main page. Haha maybe use some images and coloured tables like you do in the GDT’s. That way when a trade finally comes POTF will be prepared. It will probably be a while since we’re still in tank below all other teams mode.
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 9:56 am Racki(Quote)
Yah, it’s tough to sit here and be patient… but the Leafs don’t have their top pick… they have nothing to gain by finishing dead last. I’m OK with Tambi riding out this state-of-shit for a bit longer. But come trade deadline, he’s got to do something. At WORST, he has to unload before next season starts.
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 9:58 am Racki(Quote)
I’m scared that the Flamers are getting Kovalchuk now too. It would not surprise me in the least…
By Haboiler, January 31, 2010 @ 9:58 am Haboiler(Quote)
Phaneuf, Sjostrom and Auley to Toronto for Hagman, Stajan, Mayers and white – From Dreger
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 9:58 am Racki(Quote)
LOL, obviously there is nothing else to talk about, so what the heck…
By zackman35, January 31, 2010 @ 9:58 am zackman35(Quote)
DD says:
Phaneuf, Sjostrom and Auley to Toronto for Hagman, Stajan, Mayers and white!!
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 10:00 am Racki(Quote)
Zack: wow, well I guess that puts my fears of Kovalchuk going there to rest (hopefully anyways).
Btw, creating a post for this… I’ll direct you guys to comment over there when it’s up.
By Horpensky, January 31, 2010 @ 10:01 am Horpensky(Quote)
So… Flamers pick up Leafs garbage
By zackman35, January 31, 2010 @ 10:01 am zackman35(Quote)
Haha you beat me to it Haboiler. I’ll always give Kudos to your avatar..

OK, placeholder is up: http://puttingonthefoil.com/2010/01/dion-phaneuf-traded-to-leafs/
Chat there about the trade please.
By Haboiler, January 31, 2010 @ 10:02 am Haboiler(Quote)
Thanks Zack.. She is the best think in Oilerland these days lol.
By DropIt, January 31, 2010 @ 10:03 am DropIt(Quote)
Thats just awful… Is that everything? There has to be something else going on, Dion is worth MUCH more than that
By Bostonoiler, January 31, 2010 @ 6:15 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Ales Kotalik has left the New York Rangers team after being told he would be traded As per the New York post.
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 6:22 pm Racki(Quote)
Wow, interesting, B.O…. today’s deals aren’t quite done yet, it would appear.
By Steve-O, January 31, 2010 @ 6:30 pm Steve-O(Quote)
yeah, darren dreger just mentioned something about that (possibly to calgary) on twitter
twitter rules for this kinda shit
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 6:36 pm Racki(Quote)
So one thing we haven’t talked about yet.. Souray’s out.. Smid’s out, Staios is out. Who we callin’ up? Peckham (he’s hurt.. nevermind)? Plante? Would be interesting to see who gets the nod…
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 6:46 pm Racki(Quote)
Looks like Plante is getting the call-up. I checked the Falcons line-up today, and Plante is a healthy scratch and the reason is “Edmonton”
By Steve-O, January 31, 2010 @ 8:15 pm Steve-O(Quote)
DarrenDreger ”
Flamers expected to deal Jokinen to the Rangers for Kotalik and Higgins or Gilroy. http://www.tsn.ca will have the details as they break.”
jesus, it must be nice to have a gm willing to fix the team
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 8:28 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah I just saw that… that’s F’in crazy. Although he just said it won’t be Gilroy. So perhaps Kotalik+Higgins for Jokinen.
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 8:32 pm Racki(Quote)
Also going to the Rangers is Brandon Prust… good. I actually had a bit of respect for him, as he fought Big Mac. And it’s not possible to respect a Flame, so glad he’s gone
By Trogdor, January 31, 2010 @ 8:38 pm Trogdor(Quote)
I missed a bit of the news today. Big moves out East. Maybe Lowe will try to upstage Burke, out of spite perhaps… Who cares why, just as long as we do something!
I was watching the Detroit/Pitsburgh game earlier, and no mention of this trade what so ever… American broadcast so I guess it’s less important news.
By Racki, January 31, 2010 @ 8:42 pm Racki(Quote)
I watched part of that game and at one point, McGuire did mention the Phaneuf deal… maybe you just missed it.
By Trogdor, January 31, 2010 @ 8:45 pm Trogdor(Quote)
Must have missed it. I try to tune out when McGuire is talking as well.
By Racki, February 1, 2010 @ 12:57 pm Racki(Quote)
Nick Boynton on waivers… with Souray, Staios, Smid out… do you think the Oilers should do it? I have wanted him in the past, but if he’s on waivers.. wonder if I’ve overrated the guy.
By Mr.Majestyk, February 1, 2010 @ 4:43 pm Mr.Majestyk(Quote)
I think he signed a 1 year deal this past offseason. I can’t see it being a bad thing to pick him up even if its just for the remainder of the season.
By Racki, February 1, 2010 @ 5:23 pm Racki(Quote)
He did, and that’s my thoughts exactly.. even at worst, if it doesn’t work out, put him back on waivers.
By DropIt, February 1, 2010 @ 6:45 pm DropIt(Quote)
I HATE Kotalik.
I have heard it may have turned into Callahan and Higgins now.
But Kotalik, IMO was on his way out of Calgary before the plane landed, that trade makes no sense at all
By stanleyoil, February 3, 2010 @ 10:57 pm stanleyoil(Quote)
brendan witt on waivers by islanders great heart guy
By Racki, February 3, 2010 @ 11:21 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah I think thats just another sign, like Steve-o mentioned, of how hard it will be to move our vets including Staios/Moreau.
By Bostonoiler, February 4, 2010 @ 7:51 pm Bostonoiler(Quote)
Why hasn’t this been mentioned???? Kovalchuk traded to the Devils tongiht.
By gr8one, February 4, 2010 @ 9:06 pm gr8one(Quote)
It has, just not in here.
By Racki, February 4, 2010 @ 9:20 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah, probably should be put here, but with the GDT, people were yapping about it there (which is fine by me). As well, I think it was talked about in the Souray thread.
By gr8one, February 5, 2010 @ 6:10 pm gr8one(Quote)
I remember some people making comments about not being able to give away Oiler tickets this season, well if any of you have that problem again, you should think about donating them to this place.

By Racki, February 5, 2010 @ 8:32 pm Racki(Quote)
Wow, that’s great. People try and sell tickets at our work all the time on our work message board. I should post that link up there.
By Racki, February 5, 2010 @ 8:53 pm Racki(Quote)
Some bad news in the hockey related world as Brian Burke’s son (Brendan) died in a car accident.
By Racki, February 5, 2010 @ 8:55 pm Racki(Quote)
On another note, Toronto lost tonight and Carolina win, putting the bottom at:
NYI – 54 (57 GP)
Carolina – 47 (57 GP)
Toronto – 47 (58 GP)
Edmonton – 42 (56 GP)
Also, Smid and Staios are looking better and one or both could be back for Saturday’s game.
By zackman35, February 6, 2010 @ 12:33 pm zackman35(Quote)
You took the words right out of my mouth Gr8one, my condolences to the Burke family as well, I can’t even imagine what he’s feeling right now. It’s times like these where we do realize he’s just a person too.
By Mr.Majestyk, February 6, 2010 @ 1:42 pm Mr.Majestyk(Quote)
Trades are definitely happening now. Ville Leino was traded to Philly today. Just read it on tsn.
By Racki, February 6, 2010 @ 4:02 pm Racki(Quote)
Yah I heard that, and Detroit waived Tollefson (the guy they got in return in addition to the 5th rounder).
By Racki, February 6, 2010 @ 5:30 pm Racki(Quote)
Wow, Matt Carkner just got knocked the fuck out by Colton Orr. Those two have had some pretty epic fights.
By Racki, February 6, 2010 @ 6:46 pm Racki(Quote)
Puckdaddy has an interview up of Linus Omark. In addition, I’ve added highlight videos of Linus Omark to the Featured Videos section (top menu). I think these might be the videos mentioned by Omark in the interview that were made by his brother. Just a guess.

So, it looks like Bob Gainey is stepping down as the Habs GM.
Horrible news for Oil fans, as I believe he was the only Gm out there dumb enough to trade for Horcoff.
hehe…I just hope it`s not because the guy has a serious illness or something, and only that he has developed a newfound sense of self awareness at how much he sucked at his job.
By Racki, February 8, 2010 @ 12:51 pm Racki(Quote)
yah honestly, the speculation is that he’s losing interest in it. Maybe the media pressure is too much. He had enough to deal with, with his daughter dying a couple years ago, maybe it’s just all too much for him. I don’t know.
But yah, not many would take Horcoff
I don’t think he would either.
By Racki, February 8, 2010 @ 1:21 pm Racki(Quote)
From Jason Gregor: “The rumours are already flying out of Montreal that Gainey was told to either trade Carey Price or step down. That seems like a stretch to me, but it will be interesting to see what the Canadiens do moving forward with their goaltending. It seems obvious that one of Price or Halak will be dealt. But, the Habs have to answer the million dollar question and pick the right one to trade.”
By gr8one, February 8, 2010 @ 1:56 pm gr8one(Quote)
heh…yeah, I don’t really think he would either, but the Gomez acquisition has to make you wonder.
By Mr.Majestyk, February 8, 2010 @ 6:09 pm Mr.Majestyk(Quote)
It always appeared to me like Gainey would stand behind Carey Price to the bitter end. It appears that they aren’t interested in moving either guy at this point, as per the presser today, but perhaps this opens the door for something to happen in the future. Draft day deal?
