Excellent scrap! Btw, the Leafs won tonight in SO. If I’m not mistaken, that puts them 13 ahead? (but Edmonton has 1 game in hand).

It was uncatchable before though, if you ask me… win every remaining game, Edmonton!

holy crap, I was tired just watching that fight. it truly was epic.

Eberle with a goal and assist tonight in a 4-3 road win for the Falcons. Eberle with 4 points in 2 games!!!

    5 points, actually (1g, 2A tonight)

Racki: My bad, even better though!!!! This kid is dominating so far. I really hope to get his autograph friday night. Got free tix from my dad’s friend who works for the Lowell Devils organization. Right behind the Falcons bench. Gonna be rocking the Hemsky home retro orange and blue jersey.

Anyone have any idea if the Oilers are leaning more towards Hall or Seguin? I’m starting to really like Seguin.

TSN did a spot on it during the last Oilers game. To keep it short, they have no idea who the Oil are drafting. They said that it depends on who you ask, and Tambellini wasn’t saying.

  10. By MetalOil, March 21, 2010 @ 3:45 pm  (Quote)

Flamers lose 4-3 in regulation to the wild. 2 pts back and having played 1 more game then the Wings they are gonna be hard pressed to make the playoffs with their remaining schedule. Heads are probably gonna roll down south their in Coaching and/or management.

Well K Lowe may have tipped the Oilers hand a little:
    http://communities.canada.com/EDMONTONJOURNAL/blogs/hockey/archive/2010/03/11/oilers-kevin-lowe-on-hall-and-seguin-quot-i-don-t-think-anyone-is-suggesting-that-they-are-crosby-and-ovechkin-quot.aspx
But who knows what to take from that. He could just be lying and saying that Hall is the front runner to send out an artificial message.

  12. By Racki, March 21, 2010 @ 5:32 pm  (Quote)

Wow, good read… thanks for the link MO.. lots of great info in there. Interesting to hear that Lowe is leaning heavily (seemingly) towards Hall. These guys would know a bit better though, having actually watched them play more than a game or two. I will say I was really impressed at the WJHCs by Halls speed and ability to backcheck. Its going to be a tough choice, but I’m sure I’ll be happy with whomever the Oil pick, so long as they draft who they really feel is the best available.

I also read on the OMB that Seguin’s weight went down in the latest ISS rankings from 186 – 172. It took a lot of online investigating for me but it does look to be true. (information from various sites put together). I think that if true then that coupled with Hall being labeled more NHL ready(plus the abundance of already smallish forwards on the Oil right now) then that would put him as my preference.

THN reports that the Oilers offered up Penner and Gilbert at the deadline to the Bruins for Toronto’s 1st round pick. I am sure that we would have had to take some salary back too.
    http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/32351-Rumor-Roundup-End-of-the-line.html

Just glad to see that we are serious about trying to get another early 1st rounder although I think a better option would be to try and secure another 1st round pick a couple slots down and select Swiss sensation Nino Niederreiter and not give up so much to do so.

  15. By gr8one, March 22, 2010 @ 11:28 am  (Quote)

Yeah M&O I totally agree with you about trying to acquire a little bit of a lower pick and giving up less to do it.

somewhere around the 8-12 area we’d have to give up much less and still get a very high quality prospect like Knightrider or Gudbransen.

I would really hate to see Penner gone.

  16. By MetalOil, March 22, 2010 @ 11:50 am  (Quote)

Yeah something like Cogs or Nilsson and our 2nd round pick (from Nsh) or or a combination of O’Sully , MAP and our early 2nd round pick would possibly get that done. Maybe throw in a 4-5 rounder if we must.

  17. By Bostonoiler, March 22, 2010 @ 12:20 pm  (Quote)

I’m glad Boston didn’t take that. No need to trade Penner atm, and Gilbert is looking good with Whitney.

  18. By Racki, March 22, 2010 @ 1:04 pm  (Quote)

I’m fully on board with picking up a 10th(ish) overall pick. I am not so sure about picking up another top 3 though… I wonder how worth it, it would be. I am not at all sold on Fowler, because I’m hearing more bad on him. It might not be warranted though, but he seems like a gamble. It seems that he brings a lot of speed, but is rough around the edges in all other aspects. If we’re giving up Penner and Gilbert, I wonder if they can grab a young, but already drafted prospect.

Looks like Craig MacTavish will be coaching Canada at the Worlds. Lets hope he does not hinder Eberle’s development :) JK. With how the team has looked this year MacT’s results last year do not look so bad. It was and still is a player issue here and I am surprised that MacT has still not found employment yet. I guess the whole Penner thing Kind of hurts and with Hitch also on the NHL sidelines it could still be a while yet.

  25. By Racki, March 23, 2010 @ 3:42 pm  (Quote)

Yah it is odd that MacT isn’t hired yet, but I do enjoy him on TSN, at the very least. Haven’t seen him in a bit though. And good call on him hindering Eberle. lol On a serious note, I really hope Eberle is there! That would be great to see him play with some NHLers.

  26. By Racki, March 24, 2010 @ 11:05 am  (Quote)

Jason Gregor on ON mentioned that Guy Flaming of the Pipelineshow is thinking that we might see Jeff Petry sooner than later. He’s pretty connected with our prospects, so it is believable. So I guess if the Oilers can convince Petry that NHLers don’t need educations, then we might see him a few games here this year while Peckham is out. That would be great!

So, I was at my local teams playoff game tonight and I got a chance to see a lot of brass and meet someone that we are familiar with here. Being only three inches taller than me he sure seemed to tower over me.

I went with my dad to meet him (who took a picture for me with this guy) and we walked up the stairs. I was at the end of the row and I waited patiently for “the guy” two seats in to stop talking with this one guy, who might have been Bob Brown but I’m not sure.

My dad asked me if I wanted to meet the guy on the end seat and the guy laughed and he said “No, I’m pretty sure he’s waiting to meet this guy”, as he pointed a seat over. Just then the guy who may have been Bob Brown pointed at me and stopped talking and smiled. I addressed the guy who I wanted to meet with Mr. LASTNAMEHERE, and I asked if I could get a picture.

He smiled and said sure, so he got up and shook my hand and asked how I was doing (I felt like such a fanboy). My dad had to set down his beer to take a picture and the guy who I got my picture with laughed and pointed at the guy who may have been Bob Brown and said careful that guy may drink that if you set it near him.

Then once I got my picture with him he asked my name and if I was from town. I replied and then asked if he was looking out for the guy who I mentioned a few posts back in the general discussion and he said yeah he was looking at him and another kid that played for Saskatoon, who is a large winger I might add. He was a really nice guy, who I met, and seemed genuine for the few minutes that I got to talk with him. I’m really happy I got to meet him and I’ll post the picture tomorrow.

I’m not sure how much it could effect drafting if I directly tell who he told me he was scouting so I’ll keep it secret. =p

Hint: I didn’t really feel like meeting Steve Tambellini (who sat at the opposite end), his history isn’t as rich with the Oilers.

Great stuff, Zack! That would have been pretty cool to run into someone from the Oilers brass. If I’m guessing correctly who it is, I’ve always really liked him, although he definitely isn’t a fan fave these days (although granted, even I’ve taken my shots at him, but frequently in jest). That can describe pretty much anyone involved with the team, mind you :P

Nice little feature on Ryan Whitney from THN:
    http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/32430-VIDEO-Whitney-excited-about-future-in-City-of-Champions.html
It’ good that he seems to be liking the City & feels that things will turn around for the team But what I like most is how he has turned Gilberts game around. Tom looks stellar now!!!

Also just seen seen some OHL highlights and Tyler Seguin had a 2G 2A game as his Plymouth Whalers lead SSM Greyhounds 3 games to 1. Taylor Hall and his Windsor Spitfires are up 3 games to none in their series so things are shaping up nicely for a Taylor Vs Tyler series in the next round of the OHL playoffs.

    OHL Playoff Statistics:
    Tyler Seguin 4GP-5G-4A-9Pts
    Tayor Hall 3GP-4G-4A-8Pts

Both these player are doing their best to make our selection a Hard choice!!!

I read the Whitney article in school today, its a really good article about the team’s rebuild and how Whitney wanyts ot be here. You are right about Gilbert. Tommy G has looked a lot better since Ryan was brought in. I think Whitney will pan out here unlike what most people thought at the trade deadline.

They are seperated by 1 point and Seguin has played 1 more game, hopefully they keep winning because I would love to get a chance ot watch either one of the on NHL Net to see a preview of them deeper into the playoffs. Hoping its Taylor Hall though

Figured it was Lowe you meant. Always liked the guy, despite all the heat he takes. I mean yah, I hate some of the contract decisions, and he definitely could have done better post-new CBA, but pre-new CBA, he was pretty good for this organization. Not surprised you had such a genuine talk with him. Not the first person to say that. By “Bob Brown” do you mean Rob Brown (i.e. the former Penguin / guy desperately clinging on to every bit of hair he has)?

    Anyways, pretty cool story, man.

    Which Sutter???

I think that they will get one more year ether way. They got an Sutter’s Club going on down their there and we all remember how hard it was to break up our OBC here.

yeah, you’re probably right there, I meant Darryl, but Brent hasn’t seemed to be stellar either.

but yeah, they likely will get one more year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if major housecleaning goes down there mid-season next year if they are still just a mediocre team scratching for the last playoff spot.

This just came to me but has anyone heard a peep out of Sean Avery this year?? I have not heard one thing about him this year and to me that is the surprise of the Year in the NHL.

I did not think it was possible for him to keep his mouth shut through 72 games :)

Yeah, it was awesome. Not that I was giving up on this organization but things have looked a lot better in Oil Country. Meeting Lowe and getting the chance to actually have a decent chat with him really makes remember why I appreciate this organization so much. It’s not like he tried to brush me aside, even though it was as simple questions like, “what’s your name/are you from here” and was quite open to talk hockey it was still pretty genuine.

I’m really happy I got the chance to meet him and shake his hand, I phoned my grandparents when I got home because they were long time Oilers fans and were season ticket holders in the pre and during the dynasty era. My grandpa still watches a ton of hockey and when I told him he was just as excited if not more excited than I was. He told me he met Bobby Hull one time and didn’t want to wash his hand for a week (until grandma made him hahaha).

Anyways the guy I think was Bob Brown form Kamloops Blazers GM and now one of our scouts for BC and WHL hockey.

    http://www.bchockey.com/story/2/WHL%20Report/3557/Former_Kamloops_Blazers_General_Manager_Bob_Brown_Named_Recipient_of_the_WHL_Governors_Award.aspx

He looked like that guy except quite a bit less hair now and maybe a little bigger.

Heading out soon to lowell to see the Falcons game tonight. Get ot see my boy Eberle suit it up. Was hoping ot see Patry but that doesn’t look like its gonna happen. If anyone watches the feed look for a retro blue Hemsky jersey behind the Falcons bench lol

So tonights’ Falcons game was a 4-3 Shootout loss, however Ebelre got an assist and scored a nasty shootout goal. Petry played a pretty good game too, was a little surprised to see him out there. Game was a lot of fun, wish they guys weren’t moving……Anyway I got my Oilers hat signed by Chris Minard, Bryan Pitton and last but not least Jordan Eberle!

Yeah hahaha I was talking to this huge Falcons fan who sat behind us and they aren’t sure the Falcons are going to stay in the AHL past next season. They think CBJ is gonna bail after 1 season. It was a pretty sick time though. I completed the double play today and saw the Bruins crush the Flamers 5-0. Steve Staios tossed my a warmup puck, I was rocking the Smyth jersey hahaha. The whole section knows me as Hemsky too from the Halloween game. Its been a good hockey weekend to say the least.

Got a question, has anyone here ever gone to New York City to see a Rangers game??? Since the Oil don’t come to Boston next year and the Oilers are leaving here from an AHL standpoint. I was hoping to hop on the train and shoot into MSG and catch the game next year. If anyone has any info or could be of assistance let me know!!! Got a few hundred dollars saved up already!

Eberle was pointless in yesterdays contest :P .. but He’s still 5gp 7pts… Impressive none the less, also will add the Falcons only produced 1 goal, and by a 4th line plug… P.P.S – They play again today, hopefully he can get 1 or 2
