PRE-GAME RANT
Well here it is, the game we’ve been waiting for. No, not the gold, but who doesn’t love a good old battle between the US and Canada? This should be Canada’s toughest battle of this Olympics so far, having easily walked over Norway in the first game. The second game probably didn’t go as anyone had planned. It was a win, but Canada struggled to put the puck in the net behind Hiller. Despite outshooting the Swiss by a 2-to-1 ratio, Canada needed extra time and the shootout to lock the win (3-2). Sidney Crosby was the lone goal scorer in the shootout (on his second attempt – after the first 3 shooters for each team, there is no limitation on the number of times a single player can shoot), and Brodeur sealed the win by whipping the glove out on a great save on a shot by Martin Plüss.

PRE-GAME RANT
Game two for Canada sees them face Jonas Hiller and the Swiss. The Swiss have been known, in recent years anyways, for their tight defensive play. I expect a lower scoring game tonight than there was in Canada’s first game in which they won 8-0 vs. Norway. The Swiss lost their first game 3-1 to the Americans on Tuesday.
I’m going to say this one is a 5-1 final for Canada. The Canadians just have far too strong a team that even the tightest of defenses will struggle with. It should be a pretty good game to watch. Players of interest on the Swiss this year are goaltender Jonas Hiller, and defensemen Mark Streit (of the New York Islanders) and Anaheim Ducks prospect / 2009 1st-rounder Luca Sbisa.

PRE-GAME RANT
Roberto Luongo gets the start in this one. The forward lines according to Bob McKenzie should be:
Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Staal-Getzlaf-Perry
Toews-Richards-Bergeron
Heatley-Thornton-Marleau
So NorweiganOiler is predicting the demise of the Canadian empire right here in this game. To be honest, I would love to see it. I always cheer for the underdog. Of course I’d love to see Canada win though, and I think they will, and I think they’ll win big. Any other Norweigan fans in the house, by the way? Would love to hear from some other fans around the globe.
Feel free to submit your predictions in the comments. I’d say if Canada fails to break double digits, it’ll be a great game played by the Norweigans. Continue reading '2010 Olys GDT – Canada 8, Norway 0 – Feb 16, 2010 @ 5:30 PM MST – CTV'»

Go Canada!
Well these will be the standings until the beginning of March, however I will continue to use the space to highlight what has happened at the Olympics as well (and not just hockey).
The Oilers…well, they are just not that good. Its going to be a super interesting right after the Olympic break, but I am starting to think that we might not see that much movement from the Oil. Not because Tambellini isn’t trying, I just think the other GM’s are vultures and want picks from us to take bad contracts. Pisani and Comrie are good to go for picks, Souray, Cogliano, Grebber Grabber are all mentioned as well and they should land prospects and picks, but I don’t see the others going away. Now the off season might be a different story, but thats just what I see.
Now on to the standings, and keep reading for a recap of the Canadian Olympic results to date.

SCHEDULING
Note: These times are local times – as in PST (if you live in Edmonton, add an hour to the time). For MST, add one hour, CST add 2 hours, EST, add 3 hours. For anywhere else, follow this simple equation: # of hours to add = the product of all letters in your countries name (where A=1,… Z=26, etc), divided by the population of your country, multiplied by 23/9, minus the sum of the last 10 Lotto 6/49 draws.
