PRE-GAME RANT
Well, so far we’ve got the Habs number this season, although we’ve only played them once… It was way back on October 10th, when the Oil were healthy and the fans were excited. A 3-2 win for the home team. My oh my how the times have changed. We’re heading into Montreal to play against a team that appears to be coming together at the right time for a playoff push. Winners of 4 of their last 5, they’re probably looking forward to this match up more than we are. This is Montreal’s last game against a Western opponent, so their playoff chances look good. In the pipes Deslauriers has looked a lot more comfortable lately, but some of my dodgy sources are reporting Dubnyk will get the start tonight. For the Oil, Minard has been called up and will likely see some action as Moreau is questionable, and O’Sullivan is hanging out at home.

PRE-GAME RANT
Well, the Oilers are coming off 2 wins in a row now. After watching them plod heartlessly through January, it’s nice to see some effort out of everyone right now. I’d like to believe that there has been a big morale and culture shift, however really there shouldn’t be much reason to believe that, as the only guy of the vets from 06 to go was Staios. However, there are a lot of new faces in the line-ups these days, so there is a possibility that this is the case. Even Horcoff, everyone’s favorite goat, has stepped his game up lately. I think, personally, I’d bet that with the trade deadline gone, the guys can relax a fair bit more and play loose. The Senators have won only 1 game in their last 5. So they’ll be hoping to bounce back against a team that is normally considered the free spot on the big card. Not tonight though!
Prediction: 3-1 Oilers

PRE-GAME RANT
Here we go again, another Oilers game. Despite their trend to suck most of the season, I’m interested in watching this one. I missed the last game (the PPV.. no way am I ordering PPV these days), so I’m suffering some withdrawls
I did catch the shootout though, which was spectacular. The Oilers won the game vs. the Wild by a score of 2-1 on a shootout goal by Mike Comrie and some pretty stellar goaltending by Jeff Deslauriers. If only he could do that on a regular basis! The Devils are 3-6-1 in their last 10, while the Oilers are 3-7-0. Both teams are in need of some wins (depending on your view on that!). I’m anxious to get a closer look at Ryan Whitney in Oil blue.
I’ll predict a 3-2 win for the boys in blue tonight.
Lines for Edmonton are a total guesstimation on my part. They were in the Edmonton Sun today, but I didn’t have enough time to memorize them.
If anyone knows them, please mention them in the comments.

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild
PRE-GAME RANT
Well these GDTs are getting a bit harder to do given the state of affairs here. This one is also a PPV, which makes it doubly hard to watch, but I think I will catch it, if I can, just to see Whitney in the lineup. Anyways, the Oilers are currently on a 3 game losing streak, while the Wild have won their last 2.
There’s some significant changes to our lineup as of late, partly due to trades/waiver pickup, and partly due to injury. The defense lines aren’t known at the moment (although I can say Smid is out for the year), but the forward lines are pretty much set.
Prediction: 4-2 Wild win tonight.

GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks
PRE-GAME RANT
Sorry folks for the late GDT and the crummy pic.

For some reason I originally thought it was a 6:00 start… my bad. Anyways,
the trade deadline came and went with a little less activity on the Oiler front than I’d like. Today the Oilers dumped Staios and moved Visser for a younger O-minded d-man. That one will remain to be seen as to how smart a deal it was. Tonight should be an ugly one, however, because the new guys aren’t in the lineup, and we’re already down a Visnovsky, Staios and Grebeshkov. So Mean, Dean Arsene and Johan Motin have been called up.
I predict a 9-1 win for the Hawks tonight. Sorry all the other fluff is out for tonight as I’m a bit behind… plus I have no idea what the lines will look like, at least from the blue line.

This should be as exciting as the last game we all watched!
POST-GAME RANT
Well, back to the grind. This should be fun. I wonder how the team will play this close to the trade deadline. I bet we see a lot of slacking and disinterested play. I also bet that Grebber Grabber has an outstanding game, and lights us up for 4 points.
But we will win 5-4.
And now for Racki-stats:

GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks
PRE-GAME RANT
Well first off, Happy Valentine’s Day to all you non-single folks. Today is an earlier game, with a 5:00PM start. It’ll be on PPV and I may end up missing this one. The Oilers are fresh off a pretty exciting shootout win vs. the Kings, after a pretty bleak road trip. The Ducks are coming off of a 3-1 loss to Calgary yesterday, but have won 5 of their last 7 games, however. These two teams met on the Oilers recent road trip, with the Ducks winning it by a score of 3-2. I only caught part of the 3rd period for this game last time around, so I’m not too sure how close the score really was. However, tonight I’ll pick a win.
Prediction: 4-3 Oilers

GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Los Angeles Kings
PRE-GAME RANT
Well I missed last night’s game, but it looked like the Moreau show… were there any Moreau to the Kings rumors? We’ll have to see who showcases themselves tonight.
So the Oilers are continuing their fall for hall on this road trip so far, with a perfect 0-4. The Kings lost their last game (4-2 to Anaheim on Monday), but you’re allowed to lose 1 or 2 when you’ve won the previous 9. Hold on to your butts, it’s going to get rough. Another loss tonight, I would think.
Prediction: 6-1 Kings

GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks
PRE-GAME RANT
So a couple of teams to another step forward in the standings, with the Canes and Islanders both winning. Edmonton currently sits 7 points behind Toronto, 9 behind Carolina and 14 behind the Islanders. The Oilers are 3 for 3 on the road so far… I mean, 3 losses in 3 games, including a 6-1 pounding at the hands of the Coyotes on Monday, seemingly returning to their January mentality. In fairness, they did face a pretty hot goaltender in Bryzgalov on Monday. The Ducks have had a bit better luck lately, having won 4 of their last 5. The odds just keep worse and worse by the game for the Oilers.
Let’s go with another loss tonight… maybe let’s just assume a loss until (at the very least) we finally trade one or more of our supposed checking line. 5-3 Ducks.
I’m pretty certain Dubnyk will get one of the next two starts… I’ll go so far as to guess he starts tonight.

GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Phoenix Coyotes
PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers are coming off a very poor performance in Colorado in which Deslauriers kept the score as close as it was. The previous game was a loss against the Wild after two wins (vs. Philadelphia and Carolina). The Coyotes were blanked 4-0 vs. the Stars on Saturday, but their previous six games were win. The two teams have had opposite looking seasons this year. The Oilers are 2-7-1 in the last 10 games while the Coyotes are 7-3-0. The Oilers are 18-33-6 on the year and the Coyotes are nearly the inverse at 35-19-5. This is another good example of a team that has gone through tough years but is seeing the fruits of their labour. With any luck, the Oilers will see the same turnaround soon.
Anyways, I figure another loss, unfortunately (depending on your point of view, I suppose). Prediction: Coyotes 4, Oilers 3. Continue reading 'GDT – Edmonton Oilers 1, Phoenix Coyotes 6 – Feb 8, 2010 @ 7:30 PM – SNET – Game 58'»
