Lets go CBJ!

Lets go CBJ!

Well, as I’m sure you can tell from the abundance of posting here, this season has been going just peachy for the Oilers. I’d say it’s gotten embarrassing to be an Oiler fan, but that boat sailed a few years ago. At least the Oil Kings have given me something to cheer for the past bit otherwise…well, I don’t know. I’d like to say I’m done with this shit team, but we all know that isn’t true. For whatever reason I still watch the games. Must be a sucker for punishment.

Oiler News

– Lots of Oiler news lately but the biggest is obviously the firing of Tambellini. And fuck, finally. What a clusterfuck…yet I remember being hopeful when he got the job. Jesus.
– Mac T got hired as his replacement, with the newly re-hired Howson hired on in his previous role. I know a lot of people are not pleased with this, but I like it. I was a Mac T fan when he was coaching here (just didn’t think he was given the horses needed), and I think he’s a smart guy who can evaluate players well. I don’t understand the Howson hiring, but whatever.
– Lowe still has a job. Surprising, but not at the same time. Him and Katz are BFF’s, and must have some plan (plot) to fuck the city for years to come.
– Not only does Lowe still have a job, but he also said in the Tambellini/Mac T presser that there are two types of fans, and they only listen to the one type (i.e. the ones who are in the building and paying their ridiculous prices). Hilarious. Love it. Oh, and he’s got 6 rings that say he knows how to win (proven by 7 years out of the playoffs).
– Some injury news, with the Nuge on to his second shoulder surgery and Hemsky out for the season with a foot issue he got from blocking a shot. I really wish would stop going into corners first, and blocking shots (like the euro he is) so he’d stop getting hurt.
– Also, after that game last night you should have heard Gagner. Man he was pissed. So much so that even that tit tencer noticed. Was “seething” in the corner to quote the asshat. And I’d say I’m not surprised. Wouldn’t be surprised to see players start to ask for their way out soon, unless Mac T can show that he knows what he’s doing.

League News

– I’ll be honest, I haven’t been paying much attention to what’s been going on in the league. I can tell you that the Seahawks secondary is looking fucking awesome now, and they picked up the best available WR in the FA period. Looking real good.
– Uh, Ovechkin has been pretty good lately hey? I thought he was all washed up now…
– Ah, fuck it. I can’t think of anything else. Feel free to mention it in the comments.

Anyways, on to the standings (and fight video, and Oil Kings):

Jarome Iginla trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins…

By , March 27, 2013 11:50 pm

Wow, what a big win for the Penguins. They picked up Jarome Iginla and lost no current roster pieces and still have the cupboards stocked well enough.

Going the other way are two forward college prospects, Ben Hanowski, Kenneth Agostino, and also the Penguins 2013 first-round pick. TSN intitially caught a sniff of a rumor that Iginla was traded to the Bruins, and this was at first what was believed to be true (reported by Aaron Ward as a done deal). Sister station RDS (as well as Sportsnet) stated adamantly that this was not true as the Bruins were denying it. Shortly after, the Flames told the media to hang around after their game, as an announcement was to be made. After a whole bunch of babble, Jay Feaster finally spilled the beans that Iginla had been traded to the Penguins.

The deal with the Penguins looks better on paper than the one they had set up with the Bruins. One of the forwards (Hanowski) is a pretty big kid and put up decent numbers with St. Cloud State (is Lando Calrissian is coach?). Agostino leads Yale University in scoring this year. Time will tell on this one, but at least it’s better for the Flames than what they’d have gotten from the Bruins.

I think the fallout of the Bruins trade sets up an Oilers/Bruins trade, so watch for that soon.

Monday Morning Standings

Well, I’m thinking it’s time for another MMS.

How is everyone liking the season so far? Up until the road trip, it seems as though we have seen this story before. I wonder why that is though, cause on paper our top 6 should be one of the better ones in the league. Is it the bottom 6 forwards that are costing the team wins? Is it the defense? Team defense in general? Are we seeing the regression that can be expected of young players?

I think one thing we can all agree on is that the goaltending has been outstanding so far (with the exception of Dubnyk’s first period against Colorado). But personally I’d like to see Tambellini to add another bottom 6 forward and some quality D. Considering Whitney is getting run out of town, I wonder what he can get in return (although there is no fucking way Potter is a better D than Whitney).

Oiler News

– CBC’s Andi Petrillo just mentioned that Hall’s leg injury is something to do with his hamstring, and it’s not looking good for tomorrow’s game
– Horcoff was recently mentioned saying he still can’t grip the stick and is expected to be out at least another two weeks

League News

– Also, how good are the Blackhawks? Have earned a point in every game so far, and have only lost 3 games…the road to the Cup in the west will go through Chicago I’m thinking
– The Flames signed Ryan O’Reilly to an offer sheet, which the Avs matched super quick (seriously, I’d have waited the full week just to fuck with the Flames). The funny part came just after when Sportsnet found out that he’d have to pass through waivers, so Calgary would have had to give up the 2 picks and more than likely wouldn’t have even got the player. Which is awesome. That said, could you imagine if that came out while the Avs were still contemplating it? Feaster would have been eaten alive.
– The league is talking realignment. Which will be good, but as it stands now the eastern conference divisions would have 8 teams each while the western divisions would only have 7. This is making things a little sticky, but really which eastern team do you pull over to the west? Any one you choose will be screwed over really.

Monday Morning Standings – Superbowl Edition

By , February 3, 2013 1:12 pm

Don't really like either team, but lets go with the 49ers...NFC West represent!

Don’t really like either team, but lets go with the 49ers…NFC West represent!

It’s the first MMS of the 2013 season! And since it’s the superbowl lets make some predictions…the coin toss will be heads, the anthem will be over 1:34, 49ers will score first and will win the game. Please note I lost all of my bets last year, so what you do with those predictions is on you.

Anyways, 15% of the way through the season, and we are in February, and the Oilers are currently in a playoff position!!! Holy shit!

All in all, the team looks as was expected, with the top 2 lines providing offense, bottom 6 looking a little weak and the defense looking…challenged. Dubnyk has been a pleasant surprise however, and has held us in a couple games already.

Powerplay looks to be a killer, and the PK outside of the one sharks game looks to be solid.

Oiler News

– Gagner and Hall lead the team in scoring at over a ppg (23rd and 26th in league scoring).
– Dubnyk is at a 0.925 sv% even after that one Sharks game!
– Yakupov has awesome celebrations.

League News

– Stamkos has 16 fucking points in 8 games…jesus. Kid’s pretty good.
– Coyotes are still as shit-show ownership-wise.
– Luongo is now awesome in my books based solely on his twitter, and cause he’s making shit all weird in Canucks-town.
– Spezza out 2 months for back surgery.

Anyways, on to the standings (and fight video, and Oil Kings):
