PRE-GAME RANT
If there is a game where the Oilers should get spanked, this is it. The Oilers take on the 1st overall Canucks tonight at Rogers Arena. The Canucks have dominated the series thus far, winning all 4 games, although 3 of those games were 1 goal games (the most recent one was a 6-1 disaster). The Canucks are on a 5 game winning streak, while the Oilers have struggled to win a game in their last 11. I can’t see tonight being the night where they break out of the slump.
Prediction: 6-0 Canucks

PRE-GAME RANT
Tonight, the Oiler pictured above returns to the lineup – Gilbert Brule. Colin Fraser is out (foot). I expect a tough game tonight for the Oilers, even though the Wild are on a slump of their own (2-7-1 in the last 10). The Oilers haven’t won a game since March 5th, which makes that 10 straight games without a win (0-7-3). Yikes.
In other news not specific to the game, the Oilers have signed UNB LWer Hunter Tremblay. I’d expect that to be depth for the Barons. The Fourth Period has the photo shoot of Taylor Hall up here.
The Wild have won all the matches between these two teams so far this season (four). Why stop now? And in case you were worried that the 30th place spot was in jeopardy at all, Khabibulin gets the start.
Prediction: 5-1 Wild

PRE-GAME RANT
Tonight the Oilers say goodbye to another huge legend.. Rod Phillips. Rod’s been broadcasting Oilers games since their WHA days (since 1973). How many of us have turned down the sound on a game and flipped on the radio. Thanks to radio delay, that doesn’t work so well anymore, but my dad used to do that back in the day, and it was glorious. Rod’s already been inducted into the Hall of Fame.. will we see a jersey retired in his honor (or perhaps a start of a ring of honor here?). I hear the players will be wearing a specific number with Phillips on the back for the ceremony (37, to commemorate his 37 years of service). Whatever they do, I am sure it will be memorable. Phillips is a great announcer. I think he hands the mic off to a guy who will one day be seen as a great talent too, in Jack Michaels, but that guy has BIG shoes to fill. Anyways, on to the game…
The Oilers are coming off a tough loss against the Flamers in which they got to a 4-1 lead before seeing it slowly chipped away. They lost it 5-4 in the shootout. What a heart breaker. But really, it was great to see this band of misfits get off to such a great start and play a hard game. But the Flamers comeback was just too much for them. The Kings have won their last 3 and sit in 9th in the league right now. If you’re like me, you’re hoping for an Oilers win BIG TIME tonight, because the Kings are in control of one of our 2011 1st round picks. Right now it’s looking to be a high 20s pick. But, given how tight the standings are, the Oilers can help try and give themselves a mid-round pick for the 2011 draft. This is a draft pick rally we can all get behind, unlike “Losin’ for Larsson” and such.
That said, I have a tough time believing the Oilers can win this one.. but I’m going to spread some positive vibe and guess that they win…
Prediction 5-3 Oilers
P.S. Trogdor asks: “In true Oiler fashion, how loud will Penner be booed?”
Followed by Steve-O with: “also, how many goals will he score?”
Indeed.

PRE-GAME RANT
The Oilers have a chance to put another nail in the coffin of the Calgary Flamers’ playoff hopes. That would be nice to see. The Flamers are two points behind the playoff cut right now, but they’ve played 76 games and most teams have played 73 or 74. If our AHL team is going to win one in the remaining 8 games, this is the one.
That said, I don’t see it happening. Although we do have some nice new lines tonight! (thanks to Dawgtoy for relaying that).
Prediction: 5-1 Flamers
