GDT – Edmonton Oilers 3, Nashville Predators 4 – Mar 2, 2010 @ 6:00 PM – SNET – Game 62

By Steve-O, March 2, 2010 9:18 am

This should be as exciting as the last game we all watched!

POST-GAME RANT

Well, back to the grind. This should be fun. I wonder how the team will play this close to the trade deadline. I bet we see a lot of slacking and disinterested play. I also bet that Grebber Grabber has an outstanding game, and lights us up for 4 points.

But we will win 5-4.

And now for Racki-stats:

Monday Morning Standings – Olympics are Done

By Steve-O, March 1, 2010 10:11 am

Ashleigh McIvor - Olympic Gold Medal Winner

The end of a successful Olympics.  And what a final week.  Canada picked up 8 golds (!) since the last MMS. Last Monday the papers were talking about the Own the Podium being a failure and how we should have never done it, but I think as this amazing week has come to an end it looks like we did kick some ass (and as I read on twitter, technically we do own all the podiums).

And what a hockey game!  Wow. I don’t think they could have scripted it any better. Overtime, Crosby, against the States. If I worked for the NHL I would have that running in all my commercials non-stop with some comment like “Do you know what you’re missing?”. If they cut it with the simultaneous shots of Robson square/ the Molson house/Toronto/everywhere with a TV just erupting then they would have a hit commercial.

The closing ceremonies kinda sucked if you ask me. I enjoyed the athletes march and all that (intro to Sochi etc), but the obvious lip-syncing for the entire intro part (where are we? oh yeah, Vancouver) annoyed me, and I didn’t really like how they did the whole try to be comedians part. I did like Mr. Fox coming out and saying “Hi, I’m Mike” and getting a huge cheer (and Shatner was awesome as well…go watch Free Enterprise). Now as for the “concert”, I am aware that I don’t have the most common taste of music, but what they had there was crap (although Alanis had a nice dress on). The only band that interested me in the slightest was the Marie-Mai. And we all know why that was…the guitar was the closest thing to music that I like.

All in all, the Olympics were a massive success, and I’m glad that the world got to see us drinking from the pitcher on the way to interviews, partying in the streets, kicking ass in the sports and just being all around awesome. Also, for all of the athletes who made it to represent our country, congrats. Win or lose, you made the whole country proud.

As for NHL standings, they are the same as last week.

In the pool, the “week” finally ended which leaves Racki in first, I am in second and Trogdor is in fourth.

Monday Morning Standings, Olympic Edition

By Steve-O, February 23, 2010 10:11 am

Finland Figure Skating...lets not forget to give props to the other countries in these Olympics too.

Well, I am really enjoying these Olympics. Canada is doing well regardless what the media or “experts” are saying (or how the Men’s hockey team is doing). Lots of 4th and 5th place finishes, and while they don’t equal medals, they are something to be proud of. Melissa Hollingsworth finishing 5th (pretty damn good if you ask me), and then crying because she felt she let her country down? Good grief. I bet the athletes can’t wait for the next Olympics where its not here and they don’t have this crazy pressure on them to medal. Plus the snafu’s of the early parts of the games are causing some foreign media to dub these games the worst ever? As far as I’m concerned they can eat a dick. Based on what I have seen/read, the fan support of these games is amazing and more than makes up for a couple of hiccups.

And hey, at least we are kicking ass in curling! Ladies curling is becoming a favorite of mine.

As for NHL standings, they are the same as last week.

Monday Morning Standings…and Olympic Highlights

By Steve-O, February 16, 2010 11:04 am

Go Canada!

Well these will be the standings until the beginning of March, however I will continue to use the space to highlight what has happened at the Olympics as well (and not just hockey).

The Oilers…well, they are just not that good.  Its going to be a super interesting right after the Olympic break, but I am starting to think that we might not see that much movement from the Oil.  Not because Tambellini isn’t trying, I just think the other GM’s are vultures and want picks from us to take bad contracts.  Pisani and Comrie are good to go for picks, Souray, Cogliano, Grebber Grabber are all mentioned as well and they should land prospects and picks, but I don’t see the others going away.  Now the off season might be a different story, but thats just what I see.

Now on to the standings, and keep reading for a recap of the Canadian Olympic results to date.

Monday Morning Standings

By Steve-O, February 9, 2010 10:41 am

Rare photo of Tambellini attempting to run this team.

Oh crap am I tired. Hockey game last night started at 11:15 and I didn’t get home until 1:30am.

In other news, the Oilers have decided that just being bad isn’t good enough anymore. They want to descend to a special sort of shit. I can’t wait for the Olympics to start so I can watch some good hockey again. We have become the free bingo spot (I think thats how the saying goes). Embarrassing. I wonder how (or if even) the other GM’s stifle their laughter when Tambellini calls.

Monday Morning Standings

By Steve-O, February 2, 2010 10:43 am

I found a better idea for the Horcoff money

Huzzah! A victory!  Feels damn good, now hopefully they can put together a few more (I don’t subscribe to this tanking crap).  I’d like to see this team stop being an embarrassment and actually start playing like they give a shit (much like last night, although I didn’t watch it because it was a PPV vs. a horrible team, but they sounded good).

I also think we are seeing JDD play his way out of a contract for next season, either that or he will get a two way and spend the whole season in the minors next year.

Finally, all these trades sure make things exciting again in the NHL.  Except when your GM just sits there and whines how its hard to make a trade, how he wants to evaluate the players further, etc.  And how much you want to bet that the interest from Anaheim in Moreau was in a deal that would send JSG this way?

GDT – Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars – Jan 22, 2010 @ 7:00 PM – SNET – Game 50

By Steve-O, January 22, 2010 10:44 am

Hind Banana

PRE-GAME RANT

I’m going to see Dave Attell (spelling? I have no idea who this guy is but I hear he’s funny) tonight so I’ll probably miss this game.  Darn.  Racki said he’s still going to watch the game, so it would be nice if you all swung on by during the game to say hi to him.  It might be lonely here.

The Oilers have played better as of late, and are due a win so I bet it comes tonight when I can’t see it.

Ideally the player get their pride back and start to play as they can, and we can string together a few wins here.

Steve-O stats:

Oilers = not good (right now…soon though, soon)

Dallas = less sucky

Racki-stats:

Monday Morning Standings

By Steve-O, January 19, 2010 2:10 pm

Fix it. I don't care how. Just make this team respectable again.

This shit is embarrassing.  I hate the fact that this team has become the laughing stock of the league.

And I still have 5 or 6 more games in my mini-packs.  Just garbage.

Katz, Tambellini or Lowe, I don’t care who, you need to fix this.  Unless I see something that indicates that you are trying to fix this I am not spending a dime on anything Oiler related.*

And a lottery pick ain’t going to fix it.

First time ever I get to reuse the exact same picture. Maybe they were hoping for a jersey retirement and covered all of the Coyotes games

Go team Canada!!
