The hockey gods would like you to know that the Oilers can not have nice things. Devan Dubnyk is the latest victim to injury. Dubnyk will miss this one with a minor ankle injury. It doesn’t sound terrible. It sounds just like Dubnyk will miss a game. In his place will be Richard Bachman, since LaBarberba served up what could be described at mediocrity yesterday afternoon. At least a couple of the goals weren’t his fault (ex. the tip in), but it didn’t seem like he was playing too superbly. Maybe like Dubnyk, he needs to wander to the top of the blue paint and cut down the angle. Also sacrificed to the hockey gods yesterday was Tyler Pitlick. Boo-fucking-urns to this, because Pitlick was looking quite good. He also scored his first NHL goal yesterday too. In his first 3 NHL games, he was flying around the ice, getting aggressive on everyone, and generating chances. Basically, he was all you could ask of a 3rd liner, and then some.. and now the good lord of hockey says, no… no, you can’t have him. While speeding up the boards, Tyler Pitlick was hip checked by David Schlemko. Shlemko managed to catch a whole lot of Pitlick’s thigh and perhaps even knee. It didn’t look so good… Pitlick was in a lot of pain.. but hopefully it was just a Charley horse. I haven’t read any injury update on him yet. The way things go around here, I’m awaiting the news that the Oilers have to put Pitlick down because the leg is so badly injured. Anywho, in his place will be Anton Lander.
Both Lander and Bachman have played fairly well for the Barons. Lander was recently named Captain of the Barons (they can’t have good things either… yoink!), and Bachman is 3-4-1 with a 2.37 GAA, and 0.925 SV%. Tyler Bunz will replace Bachman on the Barons, as he was recalled from the ECHL. Bachman was quoted by Gene Principe as saying “I don’t think I have to go out there and be a superhero. I just need to make some saves.” After LaBarbera’s so-so game yesterday, his words are actually a little ironic, even though that’s not what he meant by it. It will be interesting to see how Bachman plays though, as it’s not a stretch to think that the Oilers could send LaBarbera down if Bachman plays lights out up until Dubnyk returns.
Another true test… the Oilers vs. a real hockey team.
Enjoy the game..
