Andrew Ference named 14th Captain of Edmonton Oilers

The decision on captaincy has been made. It will be Andrew Ference. I like this, as Ference is known to be a good leader and it takes the pressure off the kids. Hall would have been great, but I’d like him just focusing on other things right now. Smyth could have been good, but he’s at the tail of his career. I think this is a great decision. Your thoughts?

Definitely agree with Ference as ‘The Captain’. Vet that can still play, lots of experience, knows what it takes to kiss & raise the cup, good leader, will bring a fresh perspective but a home town boy so appreciates Oiler history, 4 year deal to give the youngsters a chance to grow into leadership roles, etc. The more I think about it the happier I get.

Hope everyone had a great summer! Looking forward to our game night chats again. I’ve had a very busy pre-season that has not permitted me time to pay attention to the pre-season :), so I’ll be needing you guys to help fill me in on the new faces around Oil Country. Lets Go Oilers!

I think he will do great as the new captain and what we need is a good defensive captain to keep our back end motivated throughout the year.

    Ference – J.Schultz
    Smid – Petry
    N.Schultz – Belov

Seems like a good way to start the season.

Hall needs to focus on what Gretzky had to do, play well as a starting center.

I am however also excited to see Nuge back.
Even if they slot him in center on the second line.
Perron – nugent-hopkins – Eberle could be dangerous and I can see teams breaking apart their top defensive line just to try and balance playing against these explosive guys.

I saw Nuge playing a scrimmage at the Terwillegar Rec Centre last month and he looks bigger, stronger and more confident.

Can’t wait to see the Oilers playing some good hockey this year!
