Small change to the line-up tonight with Eberle and Perron being split up. Eakins is trying to spread the talent over three lines. Pre season is a good time to do it, so if it’s failed experiment then it’s easy to move on. That will give the top 3 lines a dangerous option each so we should see balanced scoring opportunities.
4th line will have its own danger aspect as well with MacIntyre and Brown being centered by Acton. Word is the Stars have a goon line, so good to hear we’ll have a deterrent or two dressed.
I’m also really happy with the attitude that Eakins is bringing to the team. He wants to win every pre-season game and carry over a winning attitude into the regular season. He’s bringing a lot of passion to the bench and hopefully it will result in some solid play.
Tonight’s game will be in the home of the OKC Barons where a number of the younger guys spent time during last year’s partial lockout. The building will likely be packed and noise levels will raise the roof. Should be a great experience for the Baron’s faithful.

So it’s been a while since I’ve really put out an article that wasn’t just a news item like a signing, or a GDT or something like that. Time for a wrap of a bunch of things going on in the hockey world, and what’s going on in my head. I’ve been pretty busy outside of this blog, so apologies for getting this blog to the point where it is a barren wasteland. Hopefully it’s not too late to revive this thing.
So on to topic 1..
The Mythical Three Scoring Lines
Really hard to find a recent pic of the Oilers and the Rangers so here are some of the Octane girls instead! Go to a game, buy a calendar for your nephew for Christmas, or at least use that lie. Support the team!
Oilers and Rangers face off tonight at Rexall place. Looks like the designated backups will play tonight as both Dubnyk and Lundqvist were in action last night. Oilers defeated the Jets 2-1 and the Rangers fell to the Flames 4-1.
Oilers had a lot of players getting a look last night so there will be a rotation of fresh legs brought in. They are also minus Linus. He’s been placed on waivers for the purpose of re-assignment.
Last night Pitlick had an impressive game and Eakins is going to give him another look. He also is still enjoying Hall centering Hemsky and Smyth so that line will be kept together for now. Larsen has had a strong showing in camp registering 5 blocked shots last night as well as a goal and two helpers over 3 games played.
Sounds like Grebeshkov(groin) and Potter(back) are both out with no current timeline, so it’s great to see that Larsen is doing well.
Oilers(3-1-1) are hosting the Jets(1-2-2) who have recently returned to the NHL, rising from the ashes of Atlanta like a Phoenix! Which is where their previous team now resides…
Oilers have also trimmed the following from the roster:
Richard Bachman* (G) – Oklahoma City (AHL) aka Stephen King
Brad Hunt (D) – Oklahoma City (AHL)
Jujhar Khaira (LW) – Everett (WHL)
Oscar Klefbom (D) – Oklahoma City (AHL)
Martin Marincin (D) – Oklahoma City (AHL)
Ryan Martindale (C) – Oklahoma City (AHL)
Andrew Miller (C) – Oklahoma City (AHL)
Ty Rimmer (G) – Oklahoma City (AHL)
Sam Gagner (G) – IR (Thanks Kassian…)
OKC might do well this year as some of these names did fairly well in camp.
Enough small talk, time for game talk.
