PRE-GAME RANT

There it is, the stock Avalanche photo. The Avalanche often bring out the best in the Oilers.. so I like to do my part to maintain superstitions and appease the hockey gods by not changing this pic. Hopefully we’re in for yet another entertaining game. I would prefer the Oilers win, but if they’re going to lose, at least go out guns blazing.

So I’ve still yet to see the details on Andrew Miller’s signing.. but I wonder if we’ll catch a glimpse of him. The contract was a 1-year deal.. I’m just not sure WHICH year it was for… the 2013-14 season? Or the remainder of this one? If it was this one, we’ll see him soon.

No word on lines yet, that I can find. Still pretty early though (10:20AM as I write this), which I have just discovered and am now making a sad face. My work day needs to go a little faster. I’ll update the lines when I have them.

Edit: Lines confirmed

Miller will not report to the Oilers or Oklahoma City Barons this season. The Bloomfield Hills, Mich. product has invested four years in his post-secondary education, studying political science, and must be present at Yale in order to graduate.

“It’s not possible for me to leave and still graduate,” he laughed.

“It gives me a little extra time to train and work on my weaknesses, like my strength and my speed. And I know that if I want to play at the next level, I have to improve in all areas of the game. That’s what I plan to focus on over the off-season.”

Thanks for the heads up, Phawley.. so I guess that means he’s signed for next year… or one would hope, anyways.

As silly as my question might sound, Eric Hartzell is a good example of the opposite here… he was signed by the Pens to a 1-year ELC as well.. and his is for 2012-13.

How did we win this game? Outshot 34-24 and vastly out-faceoff-ed. Well I guess we were due for some good bounces.

Really nice dangle backhand move by Ebs, wow.

“I was just pissed off after losing six in a row. Nothing was going in for me so it was nice to finally get things going.” – eberle

Re: Miller, needs to work on his weaknesses like strength AND skating ??? Doesn’t seem to bring much to the table for a college guy who you obviously expect to take a shot at a roster spot in 4&1/2 months! Sounds like 2-3 year project-type player to me.

I’m not trying to be argumentative, but Miller is not a poor skater. He is certainly small, but he has been overlooked his entire career, based solely on his size, and not his ability.

Corey Pronman: “The 24 year old center is a classic small, skilled college player. Miller displays above-average qualities in terms of his speed, puck skills and overall offensive instincts. In his Senior season especially he showed the ability to consistently create scoring chances and keep the play flowing in the right direction.”

I’d say he brings a lot to the table, it’s just unfortunate he didn’t grow four extra inches.
