PRE-GAME RANT
First off, let’s congratulate the good hockey team in Edmonton… the Oil Kings… on winning their first ever playoff round! They swept the Kootenay Ice. Round 2 will get going on April 6.
Good quote from Tom Renney today on Ryan Nuuuuuuugent-Hopkins vs. Gabriel Landeskog: “Without your centreman it’s like playing Scrabble without any vowels.”.
Magnus Paajarvi has been recalled by the Oilers. Renney hinted that it’s possible that Paajarvi could play alongside Nuge and Eberle. Looks like Chris Vande Velde will slot into Eric Belanger’s place… Belanger is a healthy scratch tonight (apparently the first time that’s happened to him this year). Not sure the D-pairings, but I assume the usual suspects, plus Sutton in, Peckham and Barker out.
Khabibulin gets the start in net.
EDIT: Embarrassing situation for the Oilers… the NHL rejected the recall of Paajarvi because this is not an emergency recall. Teams are allowed 4 recalls after the trade deadline. They already bounced Paajarvi on waivers once to make him eligible for the OKC playoffs, they recalled Linus Omark, they recalled Chris Vande Velde, and they recalled Teemu Hartikainen (counting for 4 transactions).
OILERS LINES (projected)
Hartikainen – Gagner – Hemsky
Smyth – Horcoff – Jones
Hordichuk – Vande Velde – Eager
Smid – Petry
Whitney – Schultz
Sutton – Potter
Khabibulin
Dubnyk

Okay I was a bit tentative on ragging on our management as I thought they were just doing what upper management/the owner were mandating but when someone is told to hop on a flight all the way from OKC to Edm for tonights game only to hear that he can’t play because we are past our trade deadline call up limit then you really have to question who is running this team. Ugh, this is embarrassing.
Woops. Someone forward the NHL rules to Tambo and company. Maybe Olczyk was in the shitter when Tambellini made this decision.
P.S., I love you NorOil!
Oh God Why, Oilers management? What must Pääjärvi think, being flown around North America in vain, because our management goons cannot count to four. Maybe that’s why Horcoff got his deal. It was 1+1+1 plus another, plus another, plus half another. Dunno what that is, but it can’t be more than three…
The Kings were certainly a team prepared to win – they forechecked and hustled throughout and we disintegrated as we do against those type of pressures. Better the Kings than Calgary, who’ve gone and wet themselves again. Good, good. That only leaves an early Canucks exit on the spite to do list.
Post scriptum, I love you back, Rack. Everyone should have the pleasure of hearing “faceoff” a million times more. That, and the crowd noise on NES.
