So, first off, a bit of NHL news to get out of the way. Multiple time sex offender Graham James has been sentenced to two years in prison for his sexual assault of Theoren Fleury and another player (not Sheldon Kennedy.. that trial was done, and time served.. albeit not the full time). Two years. I don’t even know what to say here. The legal system is awful.

Anyways, on to the game. Ben Eager draws in the lineup tonight, in place of Linus Omark. Looks like we’ve got size on every line tonight. I like it. We’ll see how that works out. I think it’s only a matter of time before Hartikainen starts showing the player we hoped he’d be. Actually, even last game he looked that way. He is a very physical player, and eventually he’ll muscle some pucks in.

I’m a little unsure that Jones with Nuge and Eberle is the best, but he seems to be OK with them. On the road, Nuge has been getting shut down quite well by most teams, so maybe having some help from an experienced player might help. Eberle has been a constant level of awesome both home and away.

Dubnyk gets the start tonight. I think we have our best chance of winning when he’s in net, but I’m sure he’s about ready to bust at the seams with this being 5 in a row. Not saying that’s a lot of hockey for a goaltender, but our goalies don’t seem to keep the level of hockey high for very long.

OILERS LINES (projected)

Jones – Nugent-Hopkins – Eberle
Hartikainen – Gagner – Hemsky
Smyth – Horcoff – Petrell
Hordichuk – Belanger – Eager

Smid – Petry
Whitney – Schultz
Peckham – Potter

Asshole should get life. If he’s in for only two years though I hope he gets put in GP, they’ll straighten him out

predictably happy about the Hemmer-hatty! love that stuff.

Not sure what’s going on with the officials – waiving off some goals due to alleged goalie interference and not others. Seems to depend on which side their hair is parted in any particular period. Glad it seemed to go our way today. (edit: the NSH goal that was waived off – I think Hornquist grabbed Dubey’s stick, so I’m definitely good with that one. There have been a lot of borderline calls lately that seem to go either way.)

[James should get a lot more than 2 years…don’t want to get in to how mad it makes me that this kind of violence isn’t treated as seriously or severely as others.]

I think it’s a pretty tough gig being a ref, and they generally do a solid job given how quickly they have to react. We fans want to jump on them all the time, but it’s a pretty thankless job with what I think is a tough job to keep a low margin of error.

I think the NHL should eventually consider allowing referees to review calls, or to have everything reviewable. It will take some of the onus off the referees. Get it mostly right, and we’ll have your back if you goofed up.
