PRE-GAME RANT

In the Battle of Alberta, we won the war, but we lost won of the battles big time. Taylor Hall was concussed on a pretty ugly looking play. He picked up the puck along the boards halfway up the defensive zone. With his head down, he turned to skate up ice, and lost his balance. As he was going down, Cory Sarich pinched in with a decent amount of speed and ran through and over top of him. Contact was made with Hall’s head, but I wouldn’t go saying that this one was a dirty hit, per se. Hall’s head then seemed to hit the ice pretty hard. He lose consciousness briefly. After being checked over by the trainer on the ice, Hall skated off on his own power and left the game. Concussion. We’re all hoping he’ll be back soon, as I’m sure most Oilers fans have high hopes of another 30 goal scorer here this year. Of course, his health is far more important though.

Some good news is that Hall is not feeling any headache from after the hit, and plans to hit the stationary bike today. “I feel good, pretty much normal. I woke up yesterday and felt fine and today I feel even better. I’d never been knocked out before, so it was pretty scary for me. I don’t remember the hit, but I feel fine,” Hall said. “Who knows what would have happened if I would have stayed on my feet.”

The Oilers have also been more diligent about keeping players out of the lineup long enough to prevent re-injury, since coming under the microscope from fans and media. “There are steps in place for us to follow. We’ll listen to (medical staff). He could play this season,” Renney assured when asked about Hall’s return to the lineup. “I’m not going to guess my way through a young guy’s career who means so much to our organization.”

“I just talked to him and I think he’s doing pretty good today. It was a tough situation on Friday,” Shawn Horcoff commented on the Hall injury/hit.

On to the game tonight… we will have Dubnyk in net, again. He’s played rather stellar since taking the net back from Khabibulin. Darcy Hordichuk also could draw back in. His family just had a son (Declan).

“The Nuge” now sits at 45 points in (51gp), 1 point behind Adam Henrique (64 games played) and 2 behind Gabriel Landeskog (74 games played). Don’t forget to vote in the sidebar (or click multimedia, then polls archive up top) as to who the Calder winner should be.

Lastly, don’t forget that Oil Change Season 2, Episode 4 re-airs tonight on Sportsnet, following the game.

Yah, I don’t really think of it as a dirty hit. However, being the barbarian/thug I am… the hit DOES deserve retribution. Whitney did stand up for him though, and Peckham tried to get Sarich to go, however.. so the Oil did at least not just let it go.

BTW… the whole “retribution/no retribution for clean hits” has been done to death, so not looking to argue that. Standing up for your teammates even after what would be deemed a “clean hit” has always been something I can get behind and always will. When your teammate gets hit hard to the point of being hurt, well, you don’t just stand around (which again, the Oilers didn’t do.. so no problems there).

I also wanted to note too that Sarich had a very similar opportunity to lay another Oiler out.. almost the exact same play (except whoever it was didn’t go sliding). He didn’t do it. Take that however you will.

If RNH played the entire season at the pace he’s going he could have potentially racked up…

    82GP – 29G – 43A – 72PTS

We truly do have something special here *knocks on wood*. Its looking like we are going to have a good PP for years to come with him Ebs and Hall.
