3 up, 3 down…

The Oilers recalled Lennart Petrell, Teemu Hartikainen and Taylor Chorney from the Oklahoma City Barons. In turn, Ryan O’Marra, Josh Green and Colten Teubert get to escape this shit show for a bit.

In other news, the Edmonton Sun is reporting that Steve Tambellini should be getting a contract extension… only the details need to be worked out. This is of course based on the fact that he’s done such a good job of winning the reverse-standings Presidents Trophy.

I am not totally against Tamby getting an extension just as long as it does not exceed one year and as long as it involves Renney packing his bags before the start of next season.

The rumor is that it will be a 4 year extension (per the Sun).. what do you think of that? lol

I actually like Renney a lot more than I like Tambellini.

The only thing I can guess is that Tambellini, Katz and Lowe all had pre-planned to fail this year and nothing was going to stop that … nothing. If that wasn’t the case.. well, then there’s no buts about it, to me.. he’s a shitty GM. This is 3 years in a row where we’re sitting near or in 30th, so I can only hope that this was by design.

I honestly have a tough time placing blame on Renney. Has he done some crazy things? Yes he has, but that’s what coaches do when things aren’t working well. Everyone seems to say things like “why isn’t Paajarvi on the 2nd line or top line or pp!” (which he is now). Well… the guy has 0 goals and 4 assists in 31 games.. do you want Tom to shoot it in for him? There are things just not working out right now, and while this whole coaching argument is a bit stale for me post all of the MacT hoopla, I do see some reasoning in calling for his firing, but I don’t really think that’s the right idea. I think much of this falls on the team that has been assembled.

I see more and more why the pro-MacT people were so adamant that he shouldn’t be fired, but for me back then it mostly came down to the fact that MacT had been in the position for far too long.

If ST gets a contract extension, I may do a small write-up from me. I was about to write quite a negative post about ST but then I took a look at the trade history and it wasn’t too bad considering. He hasn’t made any big trades, aside from the Penner trade maybe, but he has got rid of a lot of garbage/baggage (POS, Foster, Fraser etc.) , then again he was the one who signed most of them. He’s pretty good at recycling.

I too have a sneaking suspicion about the Oilers pre-destined to fail (as noted in my rebuild post) for another lottery pick… ST for four more years though? Haven’t we learned from the Khabi contract? He better make a sly move come deadline acquiring a big d-man or some type of big move. The only other contract he has left to recycle is Khabi! I have a feeling he’ll be able to do it too (maybe CHI or NJD?) Then what is going to do?
