PRE-GAME RANT
Happy Boxing Day, everyone. I hope you enjoyed your Christmases. Me, mine has really just begun, as it is now t-minus 2-days before I am out of here for Mexico.
The Oilers will play the Canucks tonight. For the two of you that haven’t seen this pic yet, I hope you enjoy it. It is completely unedited. Anyways, the Oilers have 1 win and 1 loss versus the Canucks this year. Those games came way back in October. Some of you might remember Hordichuk’s promise to keep the Canucks honest. Unfortunately he never got to really live up to that promise when an attempted hit went bad and he injured himself. But with any luck he’ll play tonight and show us what he really wanted to do.
No line ups just yet, but I hear Alex Plante is in and Theo Peckham is out. I’d imagine that Khabi will also get the start.
Edit: Hemsky continues to be out (Sinus infection), and Ryan Whitney is also out tonight, thus the Plante call up. Whitney has Tendinitis in his ankle. Nikolai Khabibulin confirmed to get the start in goal tonight.
OILERS LINES (projected)
Hall – Nugent-Hopkins – Eberle
Smyth – Horcoff – Jones
Eager – Belanger – Gagner
Hordichuck – Lander – Petrell
Smid – Gilbert
Peckham – Potter
Plante – Petry
Khabibulin

Just a reminder too that Canada plays Finland today… I believe that starts at 1:30. I’ll fire up the GDT chat for that one, but there won’t be a separate game day thread. Just come on in here and chat away, if you wish.
Per Bob MacKenzie…
New F lines for CAN: Schwartz-Scheifele-Gallagher; Huberdeau-Strome-Stone; Howden-FHamilton-DSP; Bournival-Jenner-Connolly; Pearson.
CAN D pairs: Gormley-DHamilton; Harrington-Murray; Oleksiak-Pysyk; Beaulieu
Also, Mark Visentin starts this afternoon. Hopefully he’s better than he was vs. Sweden.
According to the oilers twitter whitney didn’t skate this morning and hemsky left early, no set lines were run during the skate.
*grinds teeth in seething irritation*
Losing when we play well I can take, losing when we suck is annoying, but a team scoring 3 as a direct result of incompetent officiating is kinda hard to take, I really hope they add a ‘challenge’ system soon.
the 3 Goals that would have been called back or affected:
2nd Goal, D.Sedin trips Petrell, couldn’t have made it more obvious, no call D.Sedin scores
3rd Goal, 2 Canuck players clear from around their net with a high stick, Canucks score on the rush.
5th Goal, Belanger gets given 2 minutes for being shoved in the face leading to 4-4 play, Canucks score.
