Magnus Paajarvi sits. That’s the story tonight. No wait.. the story is that Ales Hemsky returns to the line up. Both are big deals, in my opinion. Paajarvi has struggled this season. He has 1 assist in 13 games. Really, there is no way to sugar coat that. It’s downright awful. A view from the press box is in order. AHL time may even be in order. Not as a punishment, of course, but he might be having a tough time playing 3rd line minutes and he may have lost his confidence. I wouldn’t put him anywhere near Linus Omark though right now.

Anyways, back to the good… Cam Barker also returns to action tonight. Our defensive pairings will get a bit of a boost by that news. The old Smyth/Horcoff/Hemsky line will be reunited again, to which Hemsky is quite excited. Our 3rd line might finally be able to score. It looks pretty bleak on paper, but I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys work their butts off and score a couple tonight.

I always like when the Oilers play the Canadiens. The Canadiens were once a second favorite of mine. They aren’t so much now, although I’ll cheer for them in the playoffs when the Oilers are out. But the other reason I like to play them, is they often bring out the best in our team and make for some exciting games.

Prediction: 4-0 Oilers

Hemsky eyeing return… time for Oil to consider moving someone?

Ales Hemsky could return to action during this road trip..

Ales Hemsky could return to action during this road trip..

Ales Hemsky took more involvement in practice today, per Joanne Ireland. Tom Renney has been saying for the last week or so that Hemsky could return to the lineup during this road trip, even. Without question, Hemsky’s contribution to the line up will be felt heavily with the team still struggling to score goals (luckily the goaltending/defense has been strong).

Having too many offensive forwards in our line up certainly isn’t a bad problem to have, but should the Oilers look at moving one of them? Ryan Jones’ rib injury (if it keeps him out of the line up) might stall things a bit, in addition to Ales Hemsky’s recovery time. However, the team should maybe think about moving one of their forward stock and bringing in a young d-man.

Linus Omark has already gone on record as saying that he will Continue reading 'Hemsky eyeing return… time for Oil to consider moving someone?'»

The Oilers will try for their 7th win in a row tonight vs. Phoenix. Really, this is quite an impressive feat considering it’s been years since they’ve had 6 in a row (back in March, 2002). This team has a lot of the media even buying in. I’d say they compare to the Colorado Avalanche 2 years ago – a team that everyone thought had no business being as good as they ended up being. Now, eventually the Oilers are going to come down to earth and lose a game, but it’s spectacular that they’re winning these games because every little bit counts when it comes to making the playoffs. Yes, they are months away, but you have to be looking that far forward if you hope to make it.

Prediction: 3-1 Oilers

Who’s in LA, has 2 thumbs and is excited about seeing the Oilers play? Not this guy, but the Oilers have been tweeting incessantly about Kevin Smith lately. Maybe we’ll see Mean Gene get the Silent Bob treatment.

The kid line, aka diaper snipers, are pretty excited about being in LA too. Sounds like they don’t get much time to travel in junior. Hopefully they act like they own the place instead of appearing to be lost tourists. This is the first of 4 against the Kings this season, and yet another team that swept the series last season. I predict a lot less of that this year, but the Kings will be a solid test for the upstart Oilers that have so far this year turned things around pretty much 360. This will also be Ryan Smyth’s first visit back to LA since the trade and another King has been recalled. Teubert will draw in tonight as Plante has been re-assigned to OKC(Thanks Shauna!).

Monday Morning Standings

By , November 1, 2011 5:20 pm

So true

In Oilers news, the boys have been playing well. Khabibulin has earned the 3rd star of the month from the NHL (Dubnyk played lights out in his few starts as well), the Nuge is staying all year (although as per Bob MacKenzie just said on twitter, this burns the first year of his contract, once he plays 40 games it gets him closer to UFA) and the defense looks to be playing way way better than I predicted. TSN was going on about how good of a shutdown pairing Smid and Gilbert are. I figure that made a few heads explode in Oiler fan land. And Potter has looked very good as well. The rest haven’t stood out but they are not getting murdered either so that’s good.

Except Sutton decided to help Landeskog look behind him, and in what must be a record for longest time between hit and suspension, just got a 5 game Shanaban (got the saying from a post on Puck Daddy, I like it and will continue to use it). Figured it was at least 5 because of the in person meeting.
