PRE-GAME RANT
Tonight, Sam Gagner returns to the line up. He was injured in a pre-season game vs. the Flames earlier this year when he went awkwardly into the boards on a hit. His return to the lineup comes at the expense of Linus Omark. I think Omark has played well, but that line has been really ineffective at generating offense. Time to shake things up a bit. I wouldn’t even mind seeing Hartikainen draw in there to help with some dirty goals.
Khabibulin gets the start tonight. *pauses for groans*. He was very strong in the last game vs. the Wild, playing a perfect game for 59 minutes and 59 seconds. Rough, rough break. Hopefully the same Khabibulin plays tonight, because he was quite stellar.
I think this could be the night where our offense comes out (finally).
Prediction: 4-1 Oilers

PRE-GAME RANT
Tonight’s game might feature another new Oiler in Ryan Keller. He’s the guy pictured above with the dirty ‘stache. Sounds like there is a good chance he will play tonight. Shawn Horcoff is rumored to be battling the flu. Hopefully this flu bug ends very quickly. Get some shots or something, damn it. On a good note, Taylor Hall might be back tonight, as he sounds like he’s near 100% now. Khabibulin will get the start in net, which sounds like they’re going 50/50 with these goalies this year. So far, Dubnyk has been off and on, so I can kind of see the reasoning for it. Khabi has been good in his games so far (although one he was barely tested in)… so keep the rotation going until someone screws up royally.
I’ll be at the game for this one. Would love to see a win, however…
Prediction: 2-1 Wild.

Corey Potter.. a useful, inexpensive, two way d-man
I will resist all temptation to make a Harry Potter reference and talk about the magic he brings to this team (maybe I just failed, in this statement). But let’s just say that Corey Potter has been a welcome addition to the team.
Tom Renney definitely had a hand in the decision for the Oilers to sign elder rookie Corey Potter. I have to say, right now Renney is looking like a genius here, so far. It’s early on, but Potter has fit in very well. He’s averaging a shade under 19 minutes per game on the blue line, including a team leading 4:07 min/game on the powerplay. Now, the powerplay is a pretty cherry way to pad stats and protect a player. However, he’s fit in well so far, earning a couple of assists in 3 games. He also leads the team for defensemen in team PP goals for (meaning that he’s been on the ice for the most goals for on the powerplay). It is way too early to get too wrapped up in numbers just yet though, but they are trending the right direction, which pleases me.

PRE-GAME RANT
Ryan Whitney returrnnnnnns. It feels like eons since he’s played a game, and I’m sure it’s even worse for him.
The Oilers are coming off a narrow 3-1 win against the Predators. They’re a tough team to score on. The Oilers really dominated the flow of the game. So I’m kind of hoping that they’ll keep that going for tonight’s game and hand the Flames their asses…
Prediction: 5-2 Oilers

Going old school for the first one of the year
I’ll sneak this in between game day posts…
Welcome back for another year of the MMS. Again, it’s pretty useless this early in the year but I use this to talk pools and other league news as well. (last few years it’s been useless at the end of the year too because the Oilers suck balls, but what can you do)
