I too was impressed by Petry. He earned a lot of minutes tonight. Looks like Renney really likes him as well. Let’s face it, he was only sent back to OKC because of the numbers game. Another D-man that deserves a tonne of respect is Ladislav Smid. He is a shot blocking machine. He’s taken some punishment too from that vulcanized rubber, but the Czech machine keeps going. I think he and Gilbert are an excellent pairing.

This definitely wasn’t a very strong team that they beat tonight, but sometimes those are the games that the Oilers took the night off for in the past, so good on them for keeping this win streak alive. The NHL site oddly still shows the Oilers in first place, but as far as I know the tie-breaker rule says Dallas should have this one though. But nonetheless, we’re still in the top of the West, which even 11 games in, is a HUGE accomplishment.

The big difference between this year and the last few years is that every game this season is a big game. Every game is important. These wins now could be what give us that keep us in the top 8 come the end of the year. With the races being as tight as they are now, you really can’t afford to give away any games. So let’s hope this keeps rolling.
