Edmonton Oilers rookies face the Vancouver Canucks rookies tonight - 8:30PM MST

Tonight the Oilers Young Stars face off against the Canucks Young Stars. It’s an 8:30PM MST start and will be televised on Sportsnet West and also online on

#NHL_Oilers just released the lineup:

Hamilton – Nugent-Hopkins – Pelss
Cornet – Lander – Rieder
Tyrvainen – Martindale – Czerwonka
Rajala – Schaber – Pitlick
Abney – Smith – Ferguson

Vannieuwenhuizen (Gesundheit) – Schmidt
Blain – Davidson
Gernat – Lowery
Marincin – Teubert
Fedun – Musil

Not as intimidating as I thought it would sound, but at the same time, many of our young stars graduated already and aren’t eligible for this.

I’m excited to see not just RNH for the first time, but also Maricin, Teubert and Musil… Hamilton, Martindale, Lander, Czerwonka and Pitlick.

Interesting to note that our 2nd line center of the future (so I thought, anyways) – Tyler Pitlick – isn’t really playing center these days. Oh well.

All those players aren’t playing are they? They might need a longer bench.

  2. LateNightOilFan says:

Mr. M – they need extra guys since they’ll need 3 jersey’s for Vannieuwenhuizen’s name!

Happy to have Oiler hockey back, I’ll look forward to the reviews tomorrow.

    No chat box?

  4. Racki says:

Sorry, to be honest I’ve neglected the blog way too much this past month! I will definitely have the chat box up for the Oilers pre-season and regular seasons games though.

Just voted that I am interested in a keeper pool.

  6. Racki says:

sweet!!! Now if only someone would get a pool going. OK, Poll is out of date… got it πŸ˜›

  7. Steve-O says:

This color guy is terrible. Apparently the Oilers should be penalized all game.

  8. Racki says:

John Garrett you mean. Yes, he is a big time homer.

I watched this one a little less close than I should have, but it was a pretty good game. Anton Lander is a heck of a player.. two goals for him. RNH drew a bit of praise as did Marincin. Teubert had a good start to a fight then got completely laid out by a haymaker. I was also very impressed by Antti Tyrvainen’s play. I had no idea who he was coming into this. Curtis Hamilton also stood out as well too, he seems to have a good nose for the net. His goal was a bit of a fluke though, or at least a bad goal to let in (shot from a bad angle). Roy played a fairly solid game although he wasn’t without issue, seemingly far out of place a couple of times, but his defense bailed him out nicely.

All in all, a good preview.

My observations on the the game last night; Lander really impressed me, Marincin was a blueline beast (can’t wait until he fills out & gets mean!), RNH showed flashes of an impressive future even though he didn’t light the lamp, Hamilton had a strong first half but thought he kinda faded in the last 30 min. Not sure what to think about Teubert, not much of a fighter I guess.

I think RNH showed a very good ability to set up his line mates, they just couldn’t convert.
