^ True that! I think it is just a case of the vets putting it on cruise control for preseason. There seems to be an unwritten mantra around the NHL in general that preseason is for the pups & the big dogs don’t need to start howling until the bullets are for real. I have watched a few more veteran laden teams like Calgary & San Jose play & there is a definite lack of intensity & excitement compared to younger teams with a few more roster spots available. The big question mark for Edmonton though is whether the veterans will take care of their own shit a little more this year instead of concentrating solely on helping & mentoring the youngsters which is something I think occurred much too often last season. Their were a lot of scoring opportunities that ended up down the pisser because guys like Gilbert, Hemsky, & Horcoff spent an entire game trying to force the puck to the rookies. I have faith that Renney will be telling the vets that exact thing. Pass if a guy is open but if you have to force a play then fuck it, put the damn puck in the net yourself!!

oilinblood: tonights game is billed”oilers past and oilers future”horcoff will be centring hemmer and smytty, while rnh will be centring hall and ebs. i am not so sure renney does this if it was a road game, but with hemmer playing his first pre-season game and unable to get many in renney wants to see the likely pairings for the regular season.as per tsn and oilers website.looks like a strong lineup for the oil. not too sure why keller and green are dressed. green is no slouch in the tough category but he isnt making the squad. i suspect tonights game to be a heavy indicator on whether rnh is going to be finding a house or room with a teammate.if lander can make things happen with keller and green, i think anton gets a spotfor opening night.

The past was asleep last night! Maybe they've earned that right, maybe they'll turn it on for the start of the season when it counts. As for last night, thank you to the future.

The top two lines definitely could be our starting lines for the year. The 3rd line almost looks like a possible candidate for a line. However, while I REALLY like Tyrvainen, I’d send him down in favor of one of his other countrymen.. Hartikainen or Petrell. I’d heavily lean towards Petrell due to his abilities as a PKer.

Hartikainen mentioned in a recent interview he’s played some center in his career recently before coming across. I wonder if that’s an option the Oilers should explore… 4th line center for an all Finn line. Maybe something they can test out in OKC. Random thought of the day..

Yah I agree. Any time the Coked up Mexican is in the lineup, we need some sort of nuclear deterrent in the lineup to keep him busy.
