Lets hope this is the last easy decision our scouts will ever have to make.
Here is the final post with this years Break it Down series. The rest can be found here.
And hi from whatever gutter I am currently dying in. Or maybe strapped to a chair like in Hostel.
A pretty decent off-season. It could have been better, yes, but it also could have been terrible.

Olivier Roy backs up Dubnyk tonight
Tonight the Oilers head in to Calgary to play the 2nd half of their back to back with the Flames. Last night’s event was positive. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins recorded another assist after spinning off the boards near the blueline, cutting to the center of the ice and shooting it on net, where hall swept home the rebound. Khabibulin played a very strong 60 minutes. Maybe you might say 59 minutes and 55 ish seconds. The goal he allowed was one that he shouldn’t have allowed. It was a shot from the high point, through traffic that was at the high point. Other than that, he was solid.
More bad news on the injury front. Sam Gagner was driven hard into the end boards by Brendan Mikkelson. Gagner laid on the ice for a few seconds then got to a knee and was in obvious pain. He is day-to-day. The Edmonton Journal says that he took a puck in the ankle on the play, but I’m not seeing it. Pretty sure the impact of the boards did the damage.
Looks like the Oilers are going with a fairly weak lineup for this one (although I think our top line in this game could end up being a real 3rd line for the team). The Flames have dressed a decent line up, but still some key players missing from their roster.

Tonight we see Andy Sutton in an Oil uni for the first time
The Oilers will host the Flames tonight. This one will be webcast on the Oilers website and is a 6PM MST start.
This will be our first chance at seeing the big man Andy Sutton. He’s going to line up with Tom Gilbert and hopefully provide a physical presence to match Gilbert’s more positional and offensive nature. The d-pairings are pretty interesting across the board, actually. Camp invitee Kirill Tulupov is playing the right side with new-comer Cam Barker. Theo Peckham and Jeff Petry will suit up together. It’s not often that we actually have a legit RHD (right-handed defenseman) paired with a legit LHD or a physical/defensive defenseman paired with a offensive-minded defenseman, but tonight we’ve got both.
Khabibulin is going to get the nod tonight. Hopefully he can find his legs.
Some much more exciting news though Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 2, Flames 1 – Pre-season Game 4 – 2011-09-24 @ 6:00 PM MST – Webcast'»
GDT - Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks
This picture is of course of former Vancouver Canuck, and now Edmonton Oiler, Darcy Hordichuk. I always love when guys play their former teams (although it has now been over year since he played there). Hordichuk only played 2 years with Vancouver (in 08/09 and 09/10), but still he might be inclined to stir a little trouble with his former teammates. Some people got on him a bit for “losing” a fight to Matt Kassian, but I think that’s a silly thing to do. Kassian is a big kid at 6’4″ 232lbs to Hordi’s 6’1″ 212lbs. He did a really good job at keeping Hordichuk at bay, but I thought Hordi was more of the aggressor in that one. Anyways, he also had 6 hits in that game, which is a good part of why we picked him up.
On to the other Oilers, I’m loving the lineup (below). Tonight we’ll get to see Continue reading 'GDT: Oilers 1 – Canucks 2 – Pre-season Game 3 – 2011-09-22 @ 7:00 PM MST – TSN'»
