Rick Rypien dies at 27 years of age

Rick Rypien was found dead in his home.

Those of you might remember that he had some on/off ice issues as of recent. Not sure the cause of death yet, but nonetheless, never a good thing.

Rypien had signed a one-year deal with the Jets this year.

Another tragedy on the heels of the Derek Boogaard death.

My condolences to the family of Rick Rypien. Sad that another name is add to the 27 club. RIP young man.

RIP, thoughts and prayers with his family and friends. Very sad to hear, too many deaths in hockey this off-season.

However, I’m hearing on twitter that News 1130 in Vancouver is reporting he took his own life.

Suicide. I know a guy on the force down there. Here’s the article on TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=373855

Rypien has been a manic depressive for a long time and had to take leaves to deal with it. I was pulling for him and actually wanted him as an Oiler for his toughness. Very sad. Depression is an invisible killer.

Always respected his fighting ability.. damn for his size he was a crazy good fighter.

But sad to hear that it was suicide… also heard from a few MSM Tweeps that this was the case.

What a shame – when he signed with the Jets for the upcoming season I thought the time off had helped him. Suicide is so tough on the family and loved ones left behind. RIP and thoughts & prayers for his family.

I’ll just leave this link here if you have 30 min to waste. He dummies Stortini in there a few times.

    My favorite.

Always liked his fighting style, sad to see him go.
