misfit: agreed... really we're swapping spare parts here. It just so happens that we have a greater need for a lumbering, big, physical d-man than we do a big d-man that really had no upside at all here last year. One man's junk is another man's treasure here, perhaps. Or they could both be duds.

I think I'm more content with the 2nd round return on Cogs than I was before. But I am and always was happy that we moved him. I was a big supporter of the guy, but they were trying to find a spot for him here by forcing him into a role he wasn't really built to excel at. We have better ways to fill that role, really. I think he's a quality winger but a poor centreman. Simple as that.. and we've got wingers up the ying yang, really.

oilinblood: whats with the ducks taking our spare parts? do they owe us something? incestuous pictures taken of a high ranking duck brass? this is crazy.

Well, they did fleece us in two straight deals where they ended up with our #1 defenseman.

That said, I wouldn't say they did us any favours on this deal (or the Foster/Sutton trade). Sure, a 2nd is all we could probably ask for Cogliano, but we also could've used him this year. He would be fighting for the 4th line C role with Brule and some rookies, but he'd help out in one important area where the alternatives wouldn't...the PK. As for Sutton/Foster, it doesn't hurt us, but let's not make it sound like we got anything special for Foster. We got a different 3rd pairing defenseman who costs more. That's it.

So, the Sourceress (@TreenasOil) had a couple new tweets... one saying the Jets are interested in Gilbert. The other saying that the Sharks have had talks with the Oilers about Gagner as well as Omark. Better not deal those guys within the conference.

I think Omark for his size though is a lot stronger on the puck than Gagner though. His compete in the offensive zone is pretty high too. But yes, for sure his defensive zone play needs work still. But I am not really looking to see either of them go. Like I said though, if forced, I would move Omark too over Gagner. But I don't think either really should go.

Racki:
Btw, sorry for my laziness here, but I think it’s Behind the Net that has the On/Off stats (GA ON, for example) and I think that one is helpful and might prove/disprove your argument. I think it’s still a bit early to really tell though cause you’re talking about a line composed of two rookies book-ends and a center that’s still developing.

Anyways, these stats basically tell how well a player did when another player was on the ice as far as goals for, goals against, and other things.

It's not just stats I'm thinking about, they're just the easiest thing to use to show a point. From watching games on TV (granted it was usually 3-5am) and live in person, there was something that just didn't sit right with me about Omark.

At the back end of the season he produced really well, especially against the Canucks, however I have this doubt about whether he could have done it against a team that was focused. The Canucks were coasting and it looked like they didn't care, then comes the Calgary game, they were fighting for a play off spot, and Omark was nowhere to be seen. I think too many people are remembering only his play at the back end of the season in 'meaningless' games.
