Draft...draught...get it... (focus on the beer guys)

Thought I’d throw up a post for discussion today about the draft. I’ll also update this with Oilers specific news during the day (or a hate filled rant of Tambellini).

Today is the day that drafting the Nuge/or Larsson/Trade with Florida/acquire Smyth happens.

Update 5:24pm – Bob McKenzie I think confirmed Smyth to the Oilers for Brule, plus the Oilers picked the Nuge @ #1 and put a sexy new home jersey on him.

Update 7:42pm – Oilers pick Klefbom with the 19th pick

    As BO mentioned, MOrrow to the Pens at #23, Sens picked up Puempel at 24, Laffs picked up Percy at 25, Hawks picked up Danault at 26, Tampa picked Namestnikov at 27 and the Wild picked Phillips at 28th.

    Ducks up 30th. I hope Musil slides to number 31 for us, he would be another good prospect on the back end for us. Adding Klefbom and Musil would be big for the blue-line down the road.

    Was at The Frog tonight – it was so excellent to be surrounded with Blue and Orange in such an otherwise hostile city. Felt like my old college stomping grounds at the Stonehouse. There was a resounding cheer and applause when they played the clip of the Bruins winning the cup. Also chants of “Let’s Go Oil-ers” just prior to our picks. People actually had conversations with me (unlike when I normally go out to the bar, say hi to people, and get frosted.) Must be Alberta hospitality.

    Edit: boy did Setoguchi ever get screwed…the day after he signs a contract extension he gets traded? Hope he didn’t put a down payment on a house.

    Looks like Regehr agreed to waive his no trade to Buffalo, and TSN seems to think Kotalik is involved as well.

    And yeah HL, Setoguchi got the screw job…much like Carter and Richards and their NTC’s

    ok, it’s done. it’s Smyth to Edmonton for a fifth-round pick and Brule. but the Kings will move Brule along as soon as possible.

    The latest in the Ryan Smyth saga: deal looked done, Smyth for Brule and a cond’l fourth. Now there is a disagreement about the conditions.

    Benjamin Conz – the Swiss goalie who impressed at the WJC. Think this is his last year of eligibility for the draft too.
