With all the talk that the Oilers are trying to land one or two other 1st round draft picks, TSN brings the news that Tambellini is willing to and has had discussions with other GMs about trading the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
I don’t think we should be too concerned here. Tambellini, as awful as he can seem to people, likely isn’t thinking of trading the #1 pick overall for Nicklas Lidstrom or some other over-the-hill veteran player whose time is running out but was once phenomenal (well, he may even still be, but you get my point here..). I think I believe him when he says it will take a lot. So we’re talking an already established star player that suits our needs and perhaps also even more, or perhaps some more high first round picks. The players we get would have to be young and fit into the system. Perhaps even the guy whose name is being bandied about… Jeff Carter, could be an example target. I’m not saying that we trade straight up, but I’m curious what you all think it would take, if you were Tambellini.
This is almost poll worthy, but I’ve been a little poll happy lately, and it’s tough to write up a poll for something like this that really shows what people think. So just respond in the comments section with what you think could be a good trade for our #1 overall pick. Or respond by saying that we shouldn’t even trade it at all, if that’s your feeling. Be realistic, if you can…. saying that you’d only trade the #1 pick if we get Ovechkin or Stamkos in return is the same as saying “I wouldn’t trade the #1 pick overall”, so just say the latter.
